John Thomas Tharrington “JT”, son of the late John Ed Tharrington and Marie Brodie Tharrington was born February 28, 1950 in Franklin County, NC. He departed this earthly life on May 8, 2021.
He was educated in the Granville County Public Schools System, graduating from G.C. Hawley High School. After more than 20 years of dedicated service, he retired from Duke University Medical Center to enjoy his time drawing, landscaping, and spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by siblings Lois Marie Tharrington, Dorothy T. Terry, and John H. Tharrington and former wife, Evelyn Bostic Tharrington. He is survived by a devoted daughter and caretaker, Jhaunell Gulledge (Torrey), son James Jones, and adopted daughter Benjetta Johnson (Justin); one sister Annette Blacknall (Marvin); two brothers Wade Tharrington (Mary) and Michael Tharrington (Penny); four brothers-in-law Keith Bostic (Lashawn), David Bostic (Mary); Tony Bostic, John Bostic; four sisters-in-law Jennifer Deberry (Michael), Beverly Scott (Curtis), Mary Taylor (Ivory), Emma Young (Toney). He will also be missed by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
In honor of JT’s wishes and COVID-19 restrictions, no formal service will be held. Family and friends will observe a memorial hour on Thursday, May 13 at 1:00pm at American Cremation & Funeral Services 1204 Person Street Durham, NC 27703.
My brother-in-law and I had many conversations about life and he gave his girls many life's lessons that will remain with them. His life, his love, and the memories made with the family is forever. Curtis and I send our heartfelt sympathy for the entire extended family's lost. Love to my family and let us know if there's anything we can do.
