Joyce Compton Morgan, 84, passed away July 1, 2022, following a short illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents Elliott A. Compton and Merab H. Compton, sister Patricia C. McMinn, and youngest son Benjamin E. Morgan and is survived by five children, Michael S. Cole Sr. (wife Beverly) of Trenton, NC, Andrea Cole Faulkner (husband Don) of Henderson, NC, W. Joshua Morgan (wife Danette) of Kernersville, NC, Joel C. Morgan of North Topsail Beach, NC, and Merab C. Morgan of Henderson, NC. She was a loving and eccentric "Nanny" to 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren who plied her for wisdom, humor, and strong opinions about life, politics, nature, and her abiding faith which was defined by her life-changing born-again conversion in the early 1960's.
Born in Kansas City, MO, on March 13, 1938, she grew up in Batavia, OH, and finished high school at East Mecklenburg (1955) in Charlotte, NC. She briefly attended Duke University and married her high school sweetheart Robert E. Cole, an East Mecklenburg classmate and then a student at NC State's School of Design. She later married William C. Morgan of Roanoke Rapids, NC, a well-known radio /television personality in FL, CT, VA, and NC. Though a full-time homemaker, she worked a time for Union Carbide and the US Census Bureau. Above everything, she loved Jesus Christ with all her heart. She enjoyed birds, zinnias, fresh air, sunshine, music, chocolate, writing songs/poetry, quality washing machines, exploring back roads, and comfortable shoes. She was unpretentious but a stickler for proper grammar and table manners. She lived happily in a "little red cottage" on the Faulkner Family Farm and was lovingly cared for by her daughters Andrea and Merab, and granddaughter Andrea Morgan.
A memorial service will be planned for the fall
