Vanessa Walker Horton, 68 years old, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her home, with her family by her side, on Monday June 12, 2023.
Vanessa was born in November, 1954 in Durham, NC to the late Aaron and Mattie Walker.
She was a kind, generous, loving, and thoughtful person. She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters (RaMonda Horton, LaTasha Horton, LaMonda Horton-Stalling(-William); four grandchildren (Jasmine, Roderick Jr, Elijah, Octavia); two great grandchildren; sisters Ethel Alston (Melvin), Julia Walker, Victoria Holley(Rufus), and Paulette Walker; brothers Dwight Walker and Aaron Walker(Darlene); special friend Calvin Purnell; a host of loving cousins, relatives, and friends.
Vanessa was a graduate of Durham High School in Durham NC and attended Durham Technical Community College. Ms. Horton worked as a teacher’s assistant for the Durham City/Durham Public Schools retired after more than 25 years of supporting and encouraging students. At an early age joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, then attended Cox Memorial FWB, and God’s House of Refuge (Pastor V. Holley).
