Mae Hannah McCray
Funeral service for Mae Hannah McCray, 89, will be Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 1 pm at the Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor, Dr. Walter Solomon, officiating. Interment will follow in Eden Hills Cemetery. Mrs. McCray passed away on May 18, 2026 in Montgomery, AL. Mrs. McCray's remains will arrive at the church one hour prior to her service.
Mrs. McCray graduated from Cobb Avenue High School in the Class of 1954. And later graduated from Gadsden State Junior College School of Nursing. She was the Matriarch of our Welch family. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She served the church in many capacities throughout her life, including as Sunday School Secretary, a member of the Nurses Guild, and a voice in the Junior Choir. She also gave her time in the culinary ministry and contributed generously to many fundraising activities. Before her passing, she was the oldest living member of Bethel - not in age, but in years of membership. A lifetime of dedication.
Survivors include her daughter: Sandra K. Welch (Melvin, Sr.) Satcher; her sons: Kerry Dean (Crystal) Welch, Ronald Fredrick Welch, Reginald Horace Welch, and Carlton Devon Welch; sons in-law: Johnnie Earl Montgomery and Kenneth Griffin; a special son; Kenneth (Brenda) Curry; special daughter: Joe Ann Curry; sister: Philycia Annette Welch Coleman, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired Sgt. Robert McCray, sons, Stevie Alonzo Welch Curry, Donald Cedrick Welch Curry, and Otis Lakeith Welch Curry, daughters, Colleen Evon Welch Griffin and LaRita Antonia Welch W. Montgomery, her parents, Phillip Louis Welch and Martha Vera Long Welch, her brother, William Louis Welch Sr., in-laws, Mary Welch, Otto Coleman.
