Funeral service for Mary Elston Williams 90, will be Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 1 pm at the Seventeenth Street Missionary Baptist Church, 801 West 17 th Street, Anniston, with Pastor Rev. Dr. Jeffery Mills, officiating, and Rev. Dr. Richard L. Stryker, eulogist. Interment will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Williams passed away on May 28, 2026 at NHC Healthcare, Anniston. Mrs. Williams' remains will arrive at the church one hour prior to her service. Visitation will be Friday, 1 - 6 pm, The Anniston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will present an Omega-Omega Service at 5 pm during the family visitation.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Rising Star United Methodist Church in Hobson City. She served the church for several decades as the church musician. Mrs. Williams received her early education in the Anniston City School System and graduated from Cobb Avenue High School in 1953. She continued her education at Alabama A&M University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She furthered her education at Jacksonville State University, where she earned a master's degree. Mrs. Williams was a dedicated educator in the Anniston City School system for over 35 years, teaching at Cooper Elementary School, Golden Springs Elementary School, and Anniston Middle School. She was active in civic organizations in the Anniston area. She was a dedicated member of the Anniston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. of which she served as chapter president for two terms and chapter musician. She also served on the Jabberwock, scholarship, heritage in archives, and courtesy committees in the chapter. She was a member of the Anniston Area Chapter of the Alabama A&M University Alumni Association of which she served as president for twelve years. She was a member of the Aquilla and Priscilla Chapter# 455 Order of The Eastern Star (OES) and Pandora Social and Savings Club. Mrs. Williams was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Kelly Steadham Unit 312, District 15th, Anniston, AL.
Survivors include her sons: Davie R. (Vivian) Williams and George B. Williams, Jr;.her grandsons: Kikotta Derrell (Natasha) Williams, Kendrick Raphael Williams, Derrick (LaShonne) McLaughlin, and Antoinne Carter; her sister: Doris J. (David) Boyd, loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Elston and Alberta Elston; her husband, George B. Williams, Sr., brothers, baby Junior, Wallace Elston, Walter Elston, and Clarence Elston; sisters twin babies Era Bell and Vera Bell, Rosa Montgomery, Jessie Lee Davis, and Nellie Johnson.
