O'Mildred "Wooky" Ball Jr.
Funeral Services for Mr. O'Mildred "Wooky" Ball, Jr. age 90, will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 12:00 noon at William Hutchings FEMA Building located 715 MLK Drive Hobson City, AL 36201.
Interment will be in the Eden Hills Cemetery. Reverend (Mayor) Alberta McCrory, officiating. Public Viewing will be on April 20, 2026 from 1:00pm to 6:00pm at Anniston Funeral Services. Mr. Ball will lie in state an hour before the service.
Mr. O'Mildred Ball, Jr. (Wooky) was born on November 4, 1935 in Calhoun County to the parentage of O'Mildred Ball, Sr. and Martha Ann Elizabeth Brown Ball. He departed his earthly vessel on Monday, April 13, 2026, at the wonderful age of 90 years old. He attended Calhoun County Training School (CCTS). He confessed Christ at an early age and united with Rocky Mount Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed sitting on the banks of Delta Lake. He even tried his hand at flying the friendly skies and earned his pilot licenses through Lane Aviation.
He was a city councilman for the sanitation department of the Town of Hobson City. To others he was known as the man in blue (Chief of Police), mechanic and jack of all trades. Those who knew him can attest that he was a God-fearing man and loved helping others. He didn't meet a stranger and he touched many lives in the local community. He was such an inspiration to many along this path called life. He was more than just a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and cousin to family members; he helped raise and mentor many young men and women along his earthly journey.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories and build on his legacy a devoted and loving family, mother and loving companionship of his children, Geneva Ball of Anniston, AL; his children., Wanda (James Carter) Veldhousen of Anniston, AL, Sharon (Lynn) Goodson of Anniston, AL, Chris (Tyjuana) Ball of Oxford, AL, Sharoda Herren of Anniston, AL. O'Mildred leaves to cherish his precious memories and build on his legacy devoted and loving family: Walter Lewis (Dorothy) Ball of Buffalo, NY, Paul Wilford Ball of Bessemer, AL, Tony Ball of Hobson City, AL, Shirley Ann MCcleary and Madelyn Renay MCclendon both of Detroit, MI, Susie Ann Jones of Hobson City, AL, Exa Lee (William) Bell of Munford, AL. O'Mildred also leaves his legacy of 18 grandchildren, 50 plus great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his son, Dexter Ball, parents, O'Mildred Ball Sr., and Martha Brown Ball, grandparents, George and Lela Ball, and Oscar and Mattie Brown, siblings, Lela Blackburn, Cynthia Ball, Josie Lee Watkins, Tommy J. Ball, and Willie Ester Ball.
