In the timeless echoes of eternity, amidst the whispers of the celestial realm, the immortal words of Jesus resound, Jesus said unto him, “I am the resurrection and life he that believeth in me though he were dead yet shall live and whosoever liveth and believeth thou shall never die. Believiest thou this.”

Arthur Peter Sanders was born October 27, 1931, in Cross, South Carolina. He was born from the loving communion of Sarah President Sanders and Snowden Sanders. He was the youngest of seven children and the last of his siblings to be called home. His siblings, Mary Prioleau, Isaac Washington, Walter Sanders, Perry Sanders, Minnie Sanders-Howard, and Leo Sanders all preceded him in death.

He was surrounded and nurtured by love and taught there was no greater love than the love of God. Arthur accepted the Lord as his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He demonstrated his love for the Lord and the core values of love throughout his life as he lived a great life with dignity and grace. He respected all mankind. He was a quiet man yet a giant of a man, a small stature with a powerful presence.

A proud veteran, Arthur served his country honorably in the United States Army. He served in the Korean War. Arthur served his country well. After his service, he made his home in New York City, where he spent the rest of his life—building a legacy of service and community. Arthur loved New York City. He knew every street in Harlem.

Arthur spent some time working at a Bomb Plant in Aiken, South Carolina. During his life, Arthur was employed by the Mount Sinai Hospital for 25 years. He was a member of Local Union 1199 and worked for Chicago Pneumatic Tools in New York City for 25 years.

Arthur joined Convent Avenue Baptist Church where he served faithfully on the Usher’s Board and other group organizations in his community. He resided in Harlem until his death.

He leaves to cherish loving memories of him, his dedicated Goddaughter Regina White-Bright, and his loving great niece Pamela Thomas - Jones. Nieces Rebecca Rodgers, Evelyn H. Westfield, Carrie Bell-Spann, Lydia W. Thomas, Nancy Howard, Arthur O. Howard, Charlene Smith, and Danielle Howard Bradley-Moore, and a host of great nieces and great nephews, cousins, Godchildren, Church members, and many friends.
