Dorothy Lorraine Lucas, a beloved Mother and Grandmother. She was born on February 21st, 1959 in New York City to the late Carolyn Lucas and Douglas Emanuel.
Dorothy was a product of the New York City school system where she attended Julia Richmond High School. Dorothy was a devoted woman of many talents. She was beloved and well known for her passion for cooking on and off the grill as well as her famous sweet potato pies. She had a green thumb like none other, having had plants well over 25 years old that she will also live through. Dorothy dedicated many years of service as a custodian with FEDCAP and was ecstatic to have renewed her position with the company.
Dorothy was very loud about her sobriety, celebrating and maintaining 18 years clean. Dorothy cherished her NA meetings and the community of love and support she built throughout the years.
After the Lord delivered Dorothy from her "demons" as she would call her fight with addiction, Dorothy dedicated her life to Christ, serving as an usher at First Corinthians Baptist Church alongside her sister Shirley Barr. She would later go on in life to serve as a dedicated lay member at Second Prince of Peace Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the usher and building fund board under the leadership of Pastor Darlene Haygood Brown. Dorothy loved the Lord and was unashamed about it.
Preceding Dorothy in death is her dear son David Berry, her mother Carolyn Lucas, father Douglas Emanuel, her sisters Anna and Ruthie Lucas, along with her sister Shirley Barr. Above all, Dorothy cherished her family. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children who were the loves of her life: Melissa, Alisa, Donis, Dante, and Reality (Michael) Lucas. She lives on through her grand-cat Storm and pet Turtle Mr. Mann. She was a proud Grandmother to Erika and Nevaeh Jackson, Maliki Lucas and Great Grandmother to Zayin Dennis. She is also survived by her sister and brother Lynette and Warren Carter, her niece Angelique, along with a host of other nieces and nephews, caring relatives and dear friends. She leaves behind her ex-husband & friend Richard Booker, daughters in love Verdie McCain-Lewis and Zena Jennings, as well as Steven and Peter Lewis. Dorothy built a life founded on Christ and based in love.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her sharp tongue and infectious smile, as well as her unwavering dedication to those she loved.
