Edward “Chuck” Spears, affectionately known as “Punkin” later in life, passed away peacefully at home in his bed on July 3, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on March 15, 1938, in Harlem, New York, Edward spent a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to his family. He proudly served his country in the United States military, carrying a spirit of dedication and strength throughout his life. He later made his home in the Bronx, New York, where he built lasting relationships and created countless memories with those fortunate enough to know him.
Edward’s greatest passion was his family. He took immense pride in being a father and grandfather, and one of his proudest accomplishments was the love and support he gave to those he cherished. To his family, he was more than a parent and grandparent—he was a source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love.
Known for being the life of the party, Edward had a remarkable ability to make people laugh. His quick wit, playful sarcasm, and unforgettable sense of humor brought joy to every gathering. He will be remembered as a funny, loving, considerate, kind, supportive, and spirited man whose presence could brighten any room
Edward was preceded in death by his devoted life partner, Joe Ellen Brown, and his beloved children, Lynnette Wise and Scott Bailey.
Edward leaves behind his beloved daughters, Luba Jean and Denise Wise; his brother, Jerry Spears; and his cherished grandchildren, Shaquana Wright, Shatiqua Velazquez, Lashawn Felder, Tatyana Bailey, and Yazmine Bailey. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to honor his memory and legacy.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind—the laughter he shared, the joy he brought to others, and the love he gave so freely.
To know Punkin was to love him. He was the heart of our family and a source of comfort, warmth, guidance, and joy. While our hearts are broken by his passing, we are grateful for the many years, memories, and lessons he shared with us. We will carry his spirit with us always.
Edward “Chuck” “Punkin” Spears will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
