Obituary
Eunice Olive Clare (Lord) was born on May 20, 1935, in Belize City, Belize, to the late Benjamin Lord and Ethlin Bainton. She was the beloved sister of the late Horace Carlton Lord. She pur sued her education with dedication, attending Wesley College in Belize City. She began her career at the Government Printing Press, working as a typist and typesetter for the local newspaper.
In 1961, Eunice survived Hurricane Hattie, one of the deadliest Category 5 tropical cyclones to strike the Caribbean.
It was in Belize where Eunice met and married the love of her life, Theodore “Ted” Clare. Together, they migrated to New York City, where they raised four children and later made New York City their home in the early 1960s. There Eunice answered her calling in healthcare, as a nurse dedicating over 35 years at Mary Man ning Hospital, known for her gentle care for the sick and strong unwavering spirit.
A devoted mother and pillar of her community, Eunice’s home was always open. Her kindness extended far beyond her family she was like a second mother to many neighborhood children. A faithful member of West Park Presbyterian Church, she rarely missed a Sunday service. Eunice was known for her radiant smile, her love of lively conversation, and her vibrant presence. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, long walks, a good sale, her favorite soap operas, and gatherings with loved ones.
Eunice transitioned peacefully on May 19, 2025, just one day shy of her 90th birthday. She is survived by her children Curtis, Gary, Renford, and Karen; granddaughters Amanda Cribb and Ashley Cribb-Carter; and her great-grandchildren, Atticus Baez and Lucas Carter. Daughter-in-law Althea Brown-Clare; sisters-in-law Eleanor Clare and Angela Clare; brother-in-law Egbert Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish her memory.
