It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Felix Melendez, age 13, who tragically drowned on July 4, 2025.
Felix was born on June 13, 2012 in Brooklyn NY. From the very beginning, he brought joy, laughter, and boundless curiosity into the lives of everyone who knew him. He had a brilliant smile, a gentle heart, a strong sense of justice, and an infectious sense of wonder about the world around him.
Felix was in sixth grade at Harlem Village Academies East Middle School where he was known for his love of sports, reading comic books, exceptional dancing skills, his humorous acting and his quick wit. He had dreams of becoming a mariner and was inspired by his fascination with marine creatures.
He was an avid reader, a devoted big brother, and a loyal friend.
Felix is survived by his parents, Haidy Melendez and Marlon Chimilio-stepdad ; his young brother, Yeziah & Jr Marlon; his grandmother Macaría, Aunties Sherry and Erica, other family members, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends and classmates who are heartbroken by his sudden loss.
Though his life was far too short, Felix 's memory will live on in the stories we tell, the laughter he inspired, and the kindness he gave so freely. He will be forever missed and forever loved.
