Georgia Antoinette James (Lawson), born on July 4, 1948, to Calvin Lawson Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Lawson (nee Hatchett) in Brooklyn, NY, was a dedicated registered nurse. Her commitment to her profession was a testament to her passion for helping people, one of the many gifts she received from God.
GEORGIA ANTOINETTE “TONI” JAMES
Georgia met Paul Joseph James, and they married on December 1, 1967. From their union, three children were born – Paul, Kent, and Matthew James. She would later welcome a fourth son with Michael Smith – Michael C. Smith.
Georgia, affectionately known as Toni, was a great peacemaker, enjoyed serving her community immensely, and was a beacon of light. She worked with Life Experience Faith for over 21 years, mentoring countless members. She facilitated empowerment groups and was a role model to all. Her legacy lives on in everyone she touched. Many of whom still wear her famous white socks.
On Sunday, June 9, 2024, our beloved Georgia went home to be with the Lord. Her departure leaves a void that can never be filled. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, two children: Kent James, and Michael Smith, wife (Lenneir); ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother Irwin Lawson, wife (Patricia); three sisters: Sylvia Lawson, Deborah Davis (Ernest), and Gwendolyn Parker; very close friends Shaunda Scott, James Addison, Pastor Carl L. Petrus, and Barbara Sealy (deceased); a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and a community of spiritual family and friends.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, Paul James; two children, Paul and Mathew James; parents, Calvin Sr. and Sarah Lawson; two brothers, Calvin Jr. and Reginald Lawson; and sister, Emma Reff.
