At the age of 14, Herkie accepted God into his heart and was baptized by Reverend Lovelle A. Maxwell at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. After completing high school at the age of 20, Herkie joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving honorably as a machine gunner. Herkie’s duties included serving as a proof director for small arms, earning medals for National Defense and Vietnam service.
On Monday, February 23, 2026, God whispered softly, bringing peace and comfort. Herkie, known for his gentle spirit, surrendered his soul to the Lord and returned his physical form to the earth. Herkie fulfilled his purpose, found his peace, and ascended to glory with the Lord.
Herkie Mack was born to the late Lou Bertha Mack in New York, N.Y., on April 7, 1953. After the passing of his mother, Herkie was raised by the late Margaret Norman in Jersey City.

Herkie Mack was the brother of the late Jack and Frances Mack. He is survived by Marylyn Mack, Anthony William, and Shisele Richburg.
