John Robert “Brother John” Crosby Jr., affectionately known as “Supreme,” was born on
October 7, 1955, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late John Robert Crosby Sr. and the late Geraldine Moore. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later became a dedicated member of the Free Masonry.
John was a proud father of eleven children. Before marrying the love of his life, Pamela Green, he was blessed with five children: Teaque Smith, Ibn Shariff Burgess, Wanda Shamaine Crosby, Johnathan Crosby, and Joshua Crosby. Later, through his 34-year union with Pamela, he had five more children: Kevin Crosby, Karriem Green, Jasmine (Devyn) Crosby, Tyrell Green, Jamella Green, and his beloved stepdaughter, LaTasha Ingram.
John was a man of many talents and trades, a true Renaissance man. He worked as an exterminator, electrician, and carpenter who could create with his hands. He was also a respected martial artist with a third-degree black belt. He also had a love for dogs. But among all his passions, fishing was his greatest joy outside of family. The calm of the water brought him peace, and the thrill of the catch brought him to life. He was a die-hard fisherman!
Family was John’s heart. He valued honest communication, being present, and celebrating the growth of each of his children. He gave his love without limits and made sure his family knew they could always count on him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved spending time with them whenever he could.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Calvin, Kevin C. Sr., Gregory, and Fenton, and his sister Sabrina. John is also survived by his loving siblings: Sisters Deborah,
Vivian, Felicia, Doreen, Melodie, Gwendolyn, Dewetta, Vanessa & Chanel. Brothers Kevin and Terrance, whom he loved.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and strength through his children, grandchildren: Taylor Stevens, Tyler Smith, Tyara Smith, Tya Smith, Janiya Crosby, Karriem Green Jr., Brazil Green, Brielle Green, Zoelle Green, Gabriel Liv Aladin, Amir McKinnon, Aaron McKinnon, Ari McKinnon, Xavier Crosby-Marcus, and Kimora Crosby as well as a his great grandchildren, aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
John Crosby will be remembered for his deep faith, loyal heart, and the way he made people feel seen and valued. He truly lived a life of purpose and principle. His presence will be missed deeply, but his memory and spirit will live on through all who knew and loved him.
One of his favorite scriptures was The Lord’s Prayer:
“Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, And the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.”
