Obituary For Kay Francis Robinson

Kay Francis Robinson was born in New York City to the late John A. Robinson Jr. and Anita Powell on July 12, 1941.

She departed this life on Saturday, October 4, 2025, after courageously battling a brief illness.

Known affectionately as Francis to family, friends, and all who met her. She was a woman who never met a stranger. From an early age, Francis attended Catholic school, instilling in her a foundation of faith and discipline.

Francis was a proud mother to her only child, Darren Anthony Robinson, born February 27, 1960. She and her beloved partner of over 60 years, Booker T. Johnson, raised their son with love and guidance until Booker signed him into the U.S. Army to become his own man.

Francis cherished her grandchildren: Regina La-Rue, Cecilia Robinson, and her great-grandson, Matthew Russell. She loved watching them grow up, celebrating birthdays, and sharing quality moments at home. Her love extended to her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Robinson, as well as her granddaughters, Kenya and Yetta, and great-grandchildren, Khalia (Scooter Poo), Zion, and Ahmad (Chop Chop). The children always brought immense joy and a big smile to her face.

A vibrant and life-loving woman, Francis adored her family and friends. She was a proud Daddy’s girl and self-made woman who learned and taught herself many skills. Her hobbies included crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, and playing various games on her tablet. She also enjoyed bus outings with her late grandmother, Rose Brooks, and her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, John A. Robinson Jr., her mother, Anita Powell, and her brother Melvin Robinson. Francis leaves behind countless loved ones to cherish her memory, including her loving partner of over 60 years, Booker T. Johnson, her aunt Roslyn Burns, her brother James Bryant, her sister-in-law, Bevalee Bryant, her loving and devoted son Darren Robinson, four granddaughters; four great-grandchildren, her dedicated caregiver of over 9 years, Latoya Thompson, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Kay Francis Robinson will be remembered for her bold personality, her warmth, and her infectious joy. Francis was a cherished mother, grandmother, partner, and friend. Francis' spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. She leaves a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will never be forgotten.
