It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Arthur Footman also known as “Tippy” who departed this life on February 13, 2025. Born on December 23, 1959, at Fordham Hospital in the Bronx, James lived a life devoted to faith, family, and hard work a true go-getter.
James was a man of sophistication and eloquence, known for his sense of style, and love for colognes and oils he always left his distinct scent. He prided himself in always looking his best and smelling his best. Known for his smooth and articulate way of speaking. He had a gift for lifting others with his words and knowledge. Some of his favorite things to say would be “ When God made you he was just showing off” or “I’m too blessed to be stressed and I ain’t taking no Devil’s mess” always sharing insight and encouragement with those around him. He had a passion for music which led him to own an extensive record collection. His favorite songs were Mario "Braid My Hair" and Ginuwine, "I’m In Love". He enjoyed dancing, singing and making people laugh. James was always camera ready he loved taking pictures with money or his famous prayer hands pose.
James attended Monroe and Roosevelt High School. Known for his athletic basketball skills growing up he easily became a star. A hardworking man he dedicated 20 years as a maintenance worker at the Salvation Army ensuring that everything around him was in order. His commitment extended beyond his professional life he faithfully served his church where he was a choir director and maintained its upkeep holding the responsibility of opening and closing the church doors on weekends. His faith was central to his life, and he was a proud ordained minister, offering guidance and spiritual wisdom to many. He would preach on the subways, inside prisons, in nursing homes and everywhere he went. James loved the lord and knew the word very well. His work and words went beyond his neighborhood.
James was a loving husband to Gloria, a dedicated father to James, Jaquasha, Yahira, Shaquan, Sophia, and Keona, and a beloved son of Geneva and Eugene. He was also a cherished sibling to Joann, Patricia, Donald, Mark, Timothy, Gregory, Monte, and Trina. A proud Grandfather. His love for his family was unwavering, and he always put their well-being above all else.
Even though he was allergic to seafood he had a special love for all kinds of food some of his favorite things to eat were cheeseburgers, gyros and fried chicken. You would hear him say “Can you double up on those please?” He enjoyed playing cards along with dominoes.
James’s legacy is one of faith, dedication, and love. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and steady commitment to his family and community. To know him was to know a lot. His presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those who knew and loved him. A true legend known all over he was a very social person.
James leaves behind a legacy of many family and friends your light will live on in our hearts forever.
