Lucille "Ellen" Goldwire, was born on April 25, 1929, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late William Ebron and the late Nellie Goodlet. As a young adult, she migrated to Harlem with her mother, where she worked in domestic services and on factory lines.
While living in Harlem, she met Thomas O. Goldwire [deceased], and on August 14, 1954, she married the love of her life. Three children were born of that union, Paul T. Goldwire, Sr. [deceased], Sylvia E. Goldwire-Ray, and Sharon M. Goldwire-Roberts [deceased]. She loved her children dearly and did her best to teach them about loving the Lord, keeping their faith, the power of prayer, and completing their education.
As a mom, she realized her dream of completing high school, through obtaining her GED. After receiving her GED, she pursued nursing, initially, becoming a Nurse’s Aide. She furthered her education, and, on November 7, 1969, she received certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her career, she was commended for being a conscientious, cooperative, and exemplary employee. Lucille was affectionately called the "Real Nurse" by her family because of her love for the profession. We fondly remember how she never left home without her sanitizing protocol [“tissues and rubbing alcohol”], to ensure that her family was safe while using public facilities.
Lucille loved the Lord and helping God's people as the Lord saw fit. On July 2, 1989, she became a member of Convent Avenue Baptist Church, under the leadership Rev. Clarence P. Grant [deceased]. As a faithful servant, she served on the Sick and Shut-in Ministry and the SCAMP Program. On December 13, 1997, she received a Certificate of Recognition for her devoted service to the Children's Ministry. She was a dedicated member of Convent under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Jesse T. Williams, Jr., until her transition. Lucille’s service to others did not stop at Covenant, she also served on the Tenants Association of the Mary Mcleod Bethune Houses. Where she received various awards for Tenant Patrol, Community Service, Leadership and being a Floor Captain.
Lucille was a wonderful singer who enjoyed going to the movies, Radio City Music Hall, and the Legendary Apollo Theater. One of her fondest memories was singing at Carnegie Hall with the late Eddie Bonnemere. She will always be remembered for her bright smile, infectious laugh, cooking skills, Kool-Aide making, and her dislike of trains. If she had to take five buses and walk two miles to get there, so be it! She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Lucille leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter Sylvia E. Goldwire-Ray, sons-in-law Robert Ray [former], and Weah Roberts; grandchildren, Kellee Ray-Tharpe [Matthew], Kristian Roberts, Shawn Roberts, Ahmad K. Harrison [Trent], Paul [Tanai] Goldwire, Fantastia Goldwire, Karrie Goldwire-Simmons, Joshua [Dominique] Goldwire-Moore, and Paula Wilson; great granddaughters, Paige Tharpe, Paityn Tharpe, Patrice Tharpe, Faith Goldwire, Grace Goldwire, Zarria Ferrance, Joniyah Moore, Joliyah Moore, and Jelani Moore; great grandsons, Malachi Harrison, Jerrell Harrison, Perriante Biffle, Tyshiek Wilson, Da’ron Simmons, Qamari Simmons, Joseph Goldwire, Benjamin Goldwire, and Joshua Moore, Jr.; the Jester, Gadsden, Moore, and Williams’ families; and a host of extended family and friends whose lives Lucille deeply touched.
