Maybelle Williams was born on May 28, 1932, in Cameron, South Carolina, to the late Lottie Williams and JC Williams. After moving to New York City in 1934, she started her early schooling at West 118th Street Elementary School. She went on to attend Watley High School after completing Junior High School.

Throughout her life, she held various jobs, including working in a factory, a hospital, and later providing care as a home health aide. She was the proud mother of six wonderful children.

A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member of Canaan Baptist Church on 118th Street in New York, under the leadership of Reverend Moore. She served faithfully as an usher and sang in the church choir, sharing her voice and spirit with the congregation. She loved to reflect on her childhood and often shared stories of the good times she had growing up with her family.

She was truly the life of the party. Her laughter filled every room, and her cooking brought people together. Maybelle’s vibrant spirit, love for music, and zest for life were unmatched. One of her greatest joys was visiting the Apollo Theater, where she saw many legendary performers grace the stage—Dianne Washington, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, and countless others. She had a passion for travel and visited many places. To know her was to love her.

Her legacy lives on through the love she gave, the memories she created, and the family she leaves behind. A special thanks to her granddaughter Elise, who lovingly cared for Maybelle with grace and devotion. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her three sons: Freddy, Greg, and Mitchell. She is lovingly survived by her three children, Kim, Richard, and April. Her 11 grandchildren, one son-in-law, and one daughter-in-law, as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
