Obituary
Rashaun Love Hopkins was born on June 26, 1992, to Ronda Hopkins and the late Michelle Lurch. He was the youngest son of Michelle’s four children and was deeply loved by his family from the very beginning.
At an early age, Rashaun’s name was placed on the roll at the United House of Prayer for All People under the guidance of his beloved aunt, Rhonda Billings, and his late grandmother, Saint Barbara Munn. He was a member of the New Generation (Youth Choir) at New York Mother House. The church remained close to his heart throughout his life. Many will remember seeing Rashaun clapping his hands and stomping his feet to the joyful sounds of Zion coming from the Shout Band. One of his favorite songs was “Oh Lord, I Need You to Hold My Hand.”
Rashaun completed his middle school education at Janis E. Dismus Middle School in 2007. He then attended Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, New Jersey, and later continued his education at the SUNY Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center, where he completed his studies and earned a Certificate of Completion in Advanced Technology Training and Information Networking.
Following his education, Rashaun entered the workforce and became employed through On Target Staffing LLC. Through the agency, he worked in both retail and warehouse positions throughout New York and New Jersey. He was known as a dependable worker who took pride in doing his best.
Rashaun had a strong passion for both music and sports. He especially admired Kobe Bryant and Tom Brady—it was no coincidence that his favorite players were those who held multiple NBA championships and Super Bowl rings. He loved excellence and was naturally drawn to greatness, always rooting for those who exemplified dedication and a winning spirit.
Rashaun also had a deep love for fashion and took pride in his personal style. He expressed himself through the way he dressed and carried himself, always leaving a lasting impression wherever he went.
Above all, Rashaun’s greatest blessing was his beloved son, Harlem, whom he loved tremendously. He treasured every moment spent with him, whether taking him to the park, going shopping, or bringing him to the House of Prayer on some Sundays to enjoy service and to eat some good old soul food after. Rashaun loved to eat! Harlem was his greatest joy, and the love he had for his son was seen and felt by all.
Rashaun will be remembered for his bright smile, infectious laugh, and the memories he created with those around him.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his beloved son, Harlem Hopkins; special aunt, Rhonda Billings; sister, Ebonnie Smalls (Jovan); brothers, Edward Jashaun Middleton and Rasheem Lurch; grandparents, Viviana Lawrence and Joshua Lawrence (who were very dear to him) and Ollie Lurch; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends whose lives were touched by his presence.
