Obituary For Richard Pleasant Young Jr.

Our beloved, Richard, also known as Tupal to his lifelong friends, and T Money to his youngest brother and close relatives, was born on September 11th, 1959, in Washington D. C. He was born to his beautiful mother, Fannie Mae Seller, and Mucho father, Richard Young Sr.

Richard had a very loving upbringing with his parents. After all, he was relatively close in age with his mom, and the first of her nine children. He was especially close to his dad, who he modeled in height, built, and attitude.

Being the oldest of eight siblings, and the man of the house, whenever his dad was working or away from home, Richard knew he had hard shoes to fill as a young adolescent. Growing up in Brooklyn, in the 70s and 80s, with 5 younger brothers and three younger sisters, sounds like a party. And, it was from the stories told of the good ole days on Decatur St, and Hopkins Ave. Richard had a lot of friends, from all different races and places. He was loved by everyone, always. He was a lover, a fighter, and a head cracker in the dice games.

As an adult he followed after his dad, former chef, and graduated from Job Corp, as a chef himself. Man, he could throw down, chop up, and stir fry just about anything. Guess, you can say he loved good food.

In Tupal older adult years, he’ll go on to meet Adrianne Watson. They were inseparable from the day they met, upto some of his last days. She and Tupal share three beautiful children, and a lifetime of memories. Richard also created more children, within long time relationships with Debbie and Stacy. Richard loved all of his children, whom he gave himself willingly and faithfully. He was also a great uncle to a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. They have all shared great laughter, meaningful moments, and bonds with each other.

Throughout Richard's later adult years in life, he worked many jobs to support himself, his mother, family, and the family he created. He was always on the move and money was the motive. He worked all over NYC. He was a hard and honest worker. But, he wasn’t no one’s fool; he’ll quit a little or big job, for his respect and integrity.

Regardless of how the cash flowed in, he made sure he looked good and had money in his pocket. He also loved to smell good. Any woman that has loved him, has wanted to kill him, just to get him out of the shower. These are just a few things that express his personality, character, anf life. To know him, is to love him, and “ you just had to be there”.

In Richard’s final years of life, he tried to make himself more comfortable. He continued to study african-american history and culture, went deeper into his spirituality, and practiced Ti-Chi at a friends’ gym in Harlem. But everyday he lived on his own terms. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and all relatives, visiting his brother, and spending many nights with his sister. He was happy, he was at peace. As we will always remember when he went home Nov 11th, 2021 in Harlem N.Y. It was a beautiful day, as he took his last breaths, outdoors, in a very familiar place. May he forever be in our hearts, and always present with God.

Richard Pleasant Young leaves to mourn his son, Richard P. Watson, his daughter, Jessica Watson, daughter in-law Kia, sisters, Gina, and Bridgette, brothers, David, Otiz, and Eugene, grandchildren, Talia, Kenny, Jamiayah, and Hunter, nieces, Martia, and Shameeker, nephews, Mark, Markie, Mike, Jayquan, Jamar, Keon, Travis, and Otiz Jr. Acknowledged as well, is a host of extended great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
