Shannon Vinton Brown, 48, was born in New York City on October 14, 1977. He was the beloved son of Carole Gray Lovell-Brown and the late Terence Brown.
Shannon attended and graduated from P.S. 6 in Manhattan and P.S. 8 in Brooklyn Heights, and attended Brooklyn Technical High School for one year. After moving to New Jersey in 1992, he graduated from Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner in 1996.
From the moment Shannon met Stephanie, he said he was going to marry her. True to his word, he did. Their love became one of the most meaningful parts of his life.
Family meant everything to Shannon. He often spoke about the two happiest moments of his life. He would say that one was the day his brother, Quentin, was born, and the other was the day he married Stephanie, the woman he loved.
Shannon was incredibly excited when he found out that he was going to become an uncle to his two nephews, Milo and Reese. That joy was a beautiful reflection of how much family meant to him and how deeply he loved the people in his life.
Shannon shared a very special bond with his cousin Kai Parker, whom he often said was like a brother and his best friend. They spent countless hours together watching sports, talking about sports, debating sports, and simply enjoying each other's company. Their relationship was one of those special family connections that went far beyond being cousins.
Shannon enjoyed playing games, whether it was hockey, football, games on his phone, or mind games with the people around him. But there was another thing Shannon absolutely loved: FOOD! 😂❤️
If you wanted to make Shannon happy, just tell him there was shrimp and fish. “Tell Shannon there's shrimp and fish, he's there!” That was Shannon.
He knew how to enjoy the things he loved, and food was definitely one of them.
Shannon was affectionately called “Mush Face” by his mother, and he was lovingly known as “Pop Pop” by his granddaughter, Serenity. These names captured the tenderness and love that existed beneath his strong personality.
Shannon proudly worked at Hunter College as a campus security officer, where he dedicated himself to his work and the people around him.
Shannon leaves behind a family who loved him deeply. He is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie; his mother, Carole Gray Lovell-Brown; his brother, Quentin A. Gerlach, and Quentin's wife, Lindsay, along with their sons, Shannon's beloved nephews, Milo and Reese.
He leaves behind his daughters, Adrienne Jenkins and her husband, Travis Jenkins, Alexis Wright, and Seanye Wright, whom Shannon loved and embraced as his daughters. His love for them was never defined by a title. They were his girls, and they will forever carry the love and memories they shared with him. Shannon's nine grandchildren, including his beloved granddaughter Serenity, brought another special kind of joy into his life. As their Pop Pop, he created memories and shared a love that they will carry with them throughout their lives.
He is also survived by his beloved Grandma Bubby; his sister-in-law Phyllis Purinton and her husband, Rex; his sister-in-law Jennifer Wright; his brother-in-law Preston Sturgis; his aunt Donna Anita Gray, whom Shannon lovingly called his “birthday twin” because they were born on the same date, 22 years and 3 minutes apart; his cousin Kai Parker and Kai's mother, his aunt Twila Livingston Perry; his cousin Nefia Perry and her father, uncle Charles F. Perry; his uncle Julius G. Perry and his sons, Michael, Pepe, and Troy; and a host of family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by him.
Shannon's family was never simply a list of names. These were the people he laughed with, talked with, watched sports with, celebrated with, and loved. Each person held a special place in his heart, and together they were a beautiful part of the life he built and cherished. Shannon's life may have been far too short, but the love he gave, the laughter he shared, his unforgettable personality, and the memories he created will live on through everyone who knew and loved him.
Your love continues in your wife, your mother, your brother, your daughters, your grandchildren, your family, and your friends. Your name will be remembered, your stories will be told, and your grandchildren will always know the love of their Pop Pop. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4
Forever our Shannon, Forever Stephanie's love. Forever Pop Pop. Rest peacefully, Shannon. You are deeply loved, greatly missed, and will never be forgotten. 🕊️❤️
