Sheila Woods, of Harlem, NY, passed away at the age of 69 at Mount Sinai Hospital on March 30, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family.
Sheila was born in Springhope, NC, on December 19, 1954, to Evelyn and Bobby Joe Woods. She was born an identical twin to Sharon Woods (deceased), whom she loved dearly. Sheila attended elementary school in Springhope, NC, before moving to New York City, where she attended the NYC public school system.
Sheila was a devoted mother to Tracey and Daniel Woods, and they were her pride and joy. She always said their births changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she provided.
Sheila took special joy in learning how to type, which landed her a position as a secretary at St. Phillips Center in Harlem, NY, something that she (and her family) was very proud of. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church as well as an active member of the Regina Singers (a traveling gospel choir). She enjoyed cooking and trying new dishes. As Sheila became homebound due to her ailments, she found solace in learning to play video games on the PlayStation. The family has fond memories of her playing Grand Theft Auto (GTA). Her grand and great-grand nieces and nephews enjoyed playing with her online because she was such an amazing player. Sheila was so skilled that she built an online community (from all over the world) with whom she played in tournaments with. Sheila also enjoyed discussing current events in the family group chat and always reminded her family to “trust in God," "pray," and “grow your own food.”
Sheila is survived by her two sons, Tracey and Daniel Woods, and her granddaughter, Jazmin Thomas. She also leaves behind her beloved elder sister, Barbara Jovan Woods, and her younger sisters, Victoria Woods-Ross (Vern), Cathy and Theresa Woods, her brothers, Gerald, Dexter, Scotty-Joe, and Tracy Woods, her nephews, Robert Gillyard, Christopher Woods, Jason Woods, and Jared Scott, as well as her nieces, Sharango Woods-Rush (Mark), Marlovandera Woods, Sabrina Woods-Fitzgerald (Robert), Toni Woods-Hughes (Alan), Terry Woods, and Jovonni Amemadzor (Shevon). Not to mention a host of grand and great-grand nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sheila was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Joe Woods; her brothers, Sylester Sessoms, Butch, and Eric Woods; and her sisters, Sharon Woods and Tonya Woods. She was followed in death by her dear mother, Evelyn Woods.
