Obituary For Shekinah Sills

Shekinah Sills was born on 4 July 1920 in Waynesboro, Georgia to the late Aslene Moore Sills and James Edward Sills. She officially changed her name to Shekinah Sills on 7 July 2011. She was affectionately known as Louise Sills to her family.

Mother Shekinah’s schooling was quite impressive. She earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce and finance from Howard University in 1940. She attended Tuskegee Institute from 1940-1942. She completed graduate studies at several universities including Columbia and Baruch College.

Mother Sills worked at the New York City Housing Authority as an administrator in the accounting department for 42 years where she supervised 25 employees until she retired on 31 December 1994.

Her interests included Bible study, missionary outreach, nutrition, exercise, sewing, traveling, enjoying family and friends, and doing all to the glory of God. She was very involved in the Sills’ family heritage roots from Ireland.

Mother Sills loved the Lord, and she wanted to serve Him. So, one day, while in her home, she had a “stern” conversation with the Lord, and told Him she wasn’t going to watch anymore televangelist or anything like that until He sent her to a “God-fearing and loving church.” That was more than 20 years ago, and God led her to join the ATLAH World Missionary Church, under the leadership of The Honorable James David Manning, where she remained as a faithful and loving member and Mother of the Church.

Mother Shekinah became a diligent and faithful servant, endearing the hearts of the members as well as the children. She was loved and respected for her sincere and genuine expressions for the well-being of all. She would always offer her advice and wisdom to anyone seeking to learn ways to improve their overall well-being. She was devoted to the ministry, and The Honorable James David Manning; moreover, she was highly favored by the children and young people. Her presence was impressive, and she will be sorely missed.

Mother Shekinah was preceded in death by both her parents Aslene Moore Sills and James Edward Sills; her sisters Maggie Lee Sills, Lillie Mae Sills, Queen Esther Sills; her brothers James (John) Edward Sills, Henry Shelly Sills, and Jonathan Sills. She leaves to cherish her memory a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
