Celebrating the life of: Sylvia Zanetta Long
On March 1, 2023, Sylvia Zanetta Long left us and went to a new home. A home where there is no illness, a home where there is only love and happiness. A home where she was greeted by family with open arms. Sylvia was born on March 19, 1932 and was one of three children who brought joy to her parents Louise Hill and Benjamin Harris. She was baptized at Saint Thomas The Apostle Church in New York and was educated by the Catholic School System. In 1966, she started her career with the United States Postal Service and, in 1992, she retired after 26 years of dedicated service. During her retirement, she volunteered at Saint Thomas The Apostle Church in Harlem, where she assisted children during and after Bible Study. After the closing of Saint Thomas The Apostle, she joined Saint Aloysius Church. At Saint Aloysius, she became an usher, a member of the Praying Hands, enjoyed attending church events and trips and spending time with her church family. Last but certainly not least, what brought her the most joy was spending time with her family who she cared for and loved so deeply. She truly and wholeheartedly embodied the mantra “Family First.” To celebrate her wonderful life, she leaves two nieces, two nephews, three great nieces, four great nephews and a host of amazing cousins and friends.
