TREVOR ROY RAINFORD - “The Master of Cards”
Trevor’s kindness, love, and serene spirit brought joy to many of our hearts. His love was evident in many thoughtful ways, but it was most evident in his heartfelt tradition of never missing birthdays and always sending someone a warm special card. This was just one of the many ways he made each of us feel special and cherished.
Trevor Roy Rainford was born on December 18th, 1950, in Trentham Park, Sligoville, St Catherine, Jamaica to Pearl Gayle and Michael George Rainford. He was the first of two children born to the couple, with his younger sister Madge (Cream) following him. He later had three younger sisters by way of his father: namely Winsome (Molly), Dalton (Dolly), and Ethline (Orchid).
In his early years, Trevor and his sister Madge (Cream) were lovingly raised by their grandparents, Justin Powell Rainford and Matilda Rainford, while their mother, Pearl, traveled to England to secure a better future for them and her family.
Trevor’s educational journey began at the Sligoville Elementary School, and he later attended the St. Mary’s College in Above Rocks, St. Catherine, Jamaica, where his academic brilliance earned him a prestigious scholarship.
In 1970, at the age of 20, Trevor migrated to New York, United States, to live with his father, Michael, his father's wife Monica (Pom Pom) and his sister Ethline (Orchid). They first lived in Manhattan and later moved to Brooklyn. During that time, Trevor attended Baruch College, where he studied for his BA Accountancy and then successfully completed his MBA at NYU Stern School of Business. In 1987, Trevor passed his Certified Public Accountancy exam on his very first try and went on to have a distinguished career as an Accountant, serving numerousfirms and private clients, including his family. He was incredibly studious and always generous with his time, frequently helping friends and family with their studies.
Baruch College was where Trevor forged many lifelong friendships with Linford Blagrove, Ivanhoe Ffriend, Radcliffe (Danny) Simpson, Leroy Duffus, Winsome Thomas, Jean Blackwood, Janet Fortune, and the late Delroy Warmington, and the late Trevor Rigg, to name a few. Linford played a special role in Trevor's life by introducing him to Donna McCoy in 1987. Their romance began with a memorable date on February 14th at the famous Mikell’s jazz club on Columbus Ave, which later led to their marriage on September 3rd, 1988, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
On August 28th, 1991, Trevor and Donna joyfully welcomed their daughter, Ashley Marie Rainford, into the world. Ashley was the apple of Trevor's eye—a beautiful daughter who brought him immense pride. His love for her knew no bounds, and he was thrilled when she became Dr. Ashley Rainford after qualifying in clinical psychology. All the while, with a touch of humor, as he had been predicting since her birth that she would be the President of the United States in 2036.
Trevor’s love for jazz was well known to everyone. He delighted in the rhythms and melodies, whether he was enjoying live performances at jazz clubs, jam sessions in the park, or simply listening at home. Miles Davis was his favorite musician, and his extensive collection of jazz records was a true reflection of his deep passion for the music.
With a heartfelt dedication to his family, Trevor spent much time with his siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He treasured the moments spent with them, eagerly sharing his passions for jazz music, culture, history, and taking them to many exciting excursions and events, joyfully introducing them to the vibrant experiences of his beloved New York City.
On July 30th, 2024, God granted Trevor his wings to return home. He is now reunited with his father, mother, family, and friends who preceded him. His life will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Donna, his daughter, Ashley, his sisters, nieces, nephews, mother-in-law, Virginia, brother-in-law, Michael, and many family members and even more special friends who loved him.
May his soul rest in peace, knowing that the love and kindness he shared continues to grow and thrive in our hearts.
