Walter McCoy Obit
Walter McCoy was born of December 9, 1935 in Bronx, NY. Walter, better known to all as Big Mack, was born to John W. McCoy and Nellie Bobbitt-Morgan. Walter was educated within the New York City school system and later joined the Marines where he served from 1953 to 1961. Once honorably discharged, he ventured into several jobs. Finally, Walter decided on a career with the Metropolitan Transit Authority and became a bus driver. During his time on the job, he met a group of gentlemen in which he gained a brotherhood. This brotherhood better known as the Charitable Gents consisted of himself, Mitch, Freddy, Coleman, Hightower and Dandy. Walter received the Safe Driver ward several times and retired in 1995 with honor and great dignity. Big Mack was a gentle giant. Anyone that crossed paths with him came to love and respect him. He told you exactly what it was, whether you liked it or not with his favorite saying “I beg your pardon”. He had the greatest sense of humor. Big Mack was a man of great honor and integrity. He was a kind, loving and giving man. He loved his children and grandchildren to great depths; they were his pride and joy. Walter is preceded in death and will join in paradise his parents John and Nell. Mothers of his children Jean, Shirley B. and Sadonia. Children Valerie, John, Gary and Granddaughter Brandy. Walter leaves to rejoice and cherish in his memory sister Shirley Ada Aquart, Daughter Jonell McCoy and son Ronnie Matthews. Grandchildren Tianna, Tamera, Serena, Jazmyn, Ronnie, Sheri, Shaquana, Tiffany, John W. III, John A., Jonetta, and Jonathan. Great grandchildren Gregory, Kimaiya, Amare, Kadence, Kayla, Kalani and Leilany. In-laws Denise, Gerald and Jonathan. He also leaves behind best friend Mitch and a host of family and friends. We the family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their expression of love Whether it was a thought, a call, a smile, a kind word hug or prayer. We appreciate you tremendously.
