On Saturday, February 9, 2019, Mother Annie Della Braswell, wife of the late Willie David Braswell and daughter of the late Jesse and Pinkie Mae Brown received orders to finish her missionary work here on earth. Annie was a devoted and hard-working woman of God. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of McCoy Chapel United Methodist Church, Little Rock South Carolina.
Annie attended Gordon High school in Dillon, South Carolina, where she met the love of her life, Willie D. Braswell. Annie and Willie married and relocated to Washington DC where she accepted a position at The United States Department of Agriculture where she later retired with over thirty years of service. While residing in Washington, DC Annie also became a member of Harvey Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Pervis ‘Fireball’ McKenney.
Annie and Willie were blessed with seven children: Jesse Lee Braswell (deceased), Andrea Braswell Goldsboro, Sharon Diane Braswell (deceased), Anthony Braswell, Dewayne Braswell, Beverly Braswell, and Ashaki Braswell Dunston; two son-n-law: Herbert Goldsboro and Cecil Dunston and one daughter-n- law: Shawkia ‘Nadia’ Braswell.
Annie was a long-time member in good standing at Harvey Memorial Baptist Church/Master’s Touch Praise Ministries where she served on the Pastor’s staff, Pastor’s Aide, Missionary Ministry, and prayer band. She sang with the praise and worship team, served as President of Fair’s Inspirational Chorus and the Fireball Specials. Annie spearheaded the Saturday morning Women in prayer program which ultimately resulted in the birth of a phenomenal Women’s ministry. Annie was appointed to co-chair Women’s Day and the Pastor/Wife Anniversary Celebration.
As time progressed she was blessed with eleven grandchildren: David Smith, Tonya Smith, Carla Webb, LaShanna Chappell-Ball, Omar Braswell, Darren Braswell, Jessie Braswell Jr., Aladdin Braswell, Ali Braswell, Carlos Braswell, and Brittany Braswell (deceased); one grandson-n-law: Melvin Ball Jr., and one grand-daughter-n-law: Tiehera Brown- Braswell; twelve great grandchildren: Asia, Anderson, De-Lani, Jared, Olivia, Angelina, Aladdin Jr., Melvin III, Omar Jr., Kemari, Darren Jr. and Nason. After retirement Annie decided to return to her hometown of Dillon, South Carolina where she joined Manning Baptist Church, Frankie D. Thomas. Annie became the first woman to be ordained in Manning Baptist Church; she also served faithfully under the leadership of Dr. Rodney McCorkle until her demised. Annie became the first woman to ever be ordained in Manning Baptist Church.
Minister Braswell was a faithful leader who sought the Lord in every endeavor she undertook. She was a powerful role model for young women – both married and single in the church and community. She lived an exemplary life in leading others to Christ. Left to cherish her memory are two sisters: Jessie Howard of Linden, NJ and Virginia Guy of Dillon, SC; three sisters-n-law: Juanita Brown of Dillon, SC, Costella Willis of Washington, DC and Leanna McLaurin of Atlanta, GA.
