Obituary for Mr. Larry Carmichael

Larry Darnell Carmichael was born on July 28, 1950 in Dillon County, South Carolina to the late Wilbert and Fannie Carmichael. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at his residence.

Larry attended Lake View High School but graduated from Gordon High School, Dillon, South Carolina.

At an early age he became a member of New Bethel Presbyterian Church where he sang faithfully on the choir and faithfully attended Sunday School.

Larry was a supervisor at Dillon Yarn for a number of years and there he was known as “Hammer.” He also worked at Harbor Freight Tools and there he was known as “Pop Eye.” Larry worked for Bartell Funeral Home for twenty-eight years.

His passion was fishing, gardening and cooking but he loved to make his infamous souse meat!

Larry met Betty McCants and they were married on July 28, 2012.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Wilbert and Fannie Carmichael; his son: Emerson Allen Carmichael, two sisters: Wilhelmena Carmichael and Alberteen Roberts; one brother: Eddie Carmichael.

Larry leaves to cherish fond memories ~ his wife: Betty McCants Carmichael; nine children: Joyce Ann Johnson of Dillon, SC, Stephanie (Derrick) Bowens, Starr (Lavar) Batts all of Concord, NC, Larry “Dunkin” (Natalia) Carmichael of Hinesville, GA, Niko Thomas of Greensboro, NC, Rondal (Jacqueline) Briggs, Adrian (April) Briggs all of Florence, SC, Michael (Keressa) Briggs of Columbia, SC and Aubree Thomas of the home; brothers: Harold Carmichael and Rondell Carmichael of Dillon, SC , Kenneth (Emmie) Carmichael of Germany and Richard Johnson of Mullins, SC; sisters: Thelma (Donald) Bethea of Dillon, SC, Gloria Carmichael of High Point, NC, sisters-n-law: Pearl Moore, Charlyn Moore, Alice (James) Wyse, Linda (Rufus) Abraham; brothers-n-law: Kermit (Pat) Moore, Jeffery Moore and Span Moore all of Florence, SC, Sylvester Moore of Texas, LeRoy Daniels of Orangeburg, SC; his grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
