Obituary For Mrs. Beulah Mae Jones

Beulah Mae Jones, daughter of the late Olien and Rosa Bell Reaves Jones, was born on December 4, 1952 in the Hayes Town area of Lake View, South Carolina in Dillon County, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Friday, July 31, 2020 at her residence in Dillon, South Carolina.

Beulah grew up in the Hayes Town area and the family later moved to the Bermuda Section, in the Spring Hill area. Beulah joined Fork Chapel Baptist at an early age under the leadership of Reverend CB Black.

She attended the Columbus High School, but she graduated from Lake View High School when it intergraded in 1970. Later, she moved to Jamaica, New York after graduating from high school and later moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the area known as Dorchester. She joined the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury, Massachusetts under Watch Care, under the leadership of Reverend RD Kelly for one year in 1974 and in 1975 she joined and became a member. Beulah joined the Gospel Choir and the Nurses’ Guild, and on her faith became a volunteer assistant driver of the church van for the seniors and disabled members. The members loved sister Beulah because she always had that smile. She always would tell those why waste forty-seven muscles to frown, when you can only use seven to smile. Beulah was established in a gospel group by the name of “Love Ensemble,” by Reverend RD Kelly because he needed a group of singers to follow him when he was asked to preach or render church services at another church. Beulah was asked to be one of the lead singers in the group of ten members. After the death of Reverend RD Kelly the group continued their dedication by continuing to sing God’s praises. The group traveled throughout the Boston area and did trips to Rowland, North Carolina for weekly Revivals.

Beulah was employed at the Roxbury Comprehensive Community Health Center {RCCHC} for ten years, during a variety of jobs within the Center; she attended Northeastern University in Boston for Medical Terminology. After ten years at the company, Beulah was called by the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority {MBTA} as a bus and trolley operator. After serving for six years her position was moved to supervisor. She also served as a Street and Rail Police Officer in 1988. She took all of the classes that the authority provided including public speaking. She was promoted to Assistant Superintendent on the newly organized Silver Line Bus System. Beulah would visit her mom and dad every other week when their health began to fail, and she would be back to work on Monday. All her employees loved her and they gave her the name “BJ” and it still works today. Beulah was elected to the City of Boston Ward Committee and, a delegate to the Democratic Party in 1996.

Beulah returned home in 2005 to care for her mother after she brought her home from New York in 2006, she rejoined Fork Chapel Baptist Church, was elected to join the Trustee Board, and was elected financial secretary and she worked faithfully in both positions. She joined the Fork Chapel Mass Choir, Nurses’ Guild, Kitchen Staff, and the Pastor’s Aide Ministry and was dedicated member. Beulah loved singing and giving God the Glory, her favorite song was “Somebody touched me” she said that God gave her that song when she took sick in 1998. She also volunteered in her community to aide the Elders one who needed assistant to the hospital for their appointments and shopping. She attended Northeastern Technical College of Dillon for computers.
