Obituary For Mrs. Mae Bell Moore

The Life and Times of Mae Bell Moore

A Time To Be Born Mae Bell Wallace Moore was born on September 4, 1943 to Heyward and Rose Thomas Wallace in Cades, South Carolina. She was the eldest of six children born to this union. A Time To Die Mae Bell departed from this earthly life to be present with the Lord on February 16, 2019 at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Washington Wallace; sisters-in-law: Daisy Moore Skinner, Lizzie Moore and Joann Moore; brothers-in-law: Ernest Moore, Harry Moore, Rufus Moore, Samuel Bartell, Levern Jackson and Vexter Gamble. A Time To Learn and Work Mrs. Moore attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Carver High School in 1963. She worked her entire life beginning as a child of a farming couple. Her formal work history included being an accomplished seamstress at: Wentworth Manufacturing Company in Lake City and Florence, South Carolina, Yopp Manufacturing Company in Florence, South Carolina, Lake City Manufacturing Company in Lake City, South Carolina and Coleman Industries in Lake City, South Carolina where she retired after many years of service. A Time To Love Mae Bell married Hercules Moore in 1963 and to this union three children were born. She was a faithful and devoted wife and caretaker to her loving and devoted husband and spent her life loving, raising and nurturing all of the children in the family beginning with her five younger siblings, their children and grandchildren, along with children that she cared for in her home and throughout the community. A Time To Serve Mae Bell joined Mt. Clair Missionary Baptist Church in Lake City, South Carolina at an early age under the leadership of Rev. C. B. Black, Sr. and remained a faithful member her entire life. At an early age, she was a member of the Jr. Choir and Sunday School Ministry. She served in many capacities until recently when her health begin to decline. She was a member and former Chairperson of the Usher Board and a member, Assistant Chaplain and Vice President of the Pulpit Aid Club. She dedicated herself to maintaining the beauty of the God’s sanctuary as she worked diligently to make sure that the flowers were kept beautiful and she assisted in working as a custodian to maintain the cleanliness of the entire church. Additionally, she worked beyond her local church and was faithful to attend the 5th Sunday Union Service where she worshiped and fellowshipped and was known as a great friend to many who also attended from various churches. A Time To Enjoy Life Mae Bell loved traveling with her sisters, family and friends until her health failed and even as God was calling her home, she was planning a trip with her sisters. Her number one hobby was gardening. Her yard was known throughout the area for being a thing of beauty as her flowers bloomed throughout the year. She also used her “green thumb” to grow many potted plants in her home and shared them with the church, her family and friends. She loved to dress up and was known for her matching hats and suits that made her look and feel like the royal queen that God created her to be. She was loved by many children her greatest joy came from cooking and feeding children, nurturing them while they were small, encouraging them as they attended school and supporting them as they began their adult lives. This started with her siblings and touched every generation for the entire 75 years of her life. She loved to talk and spent countless hours on the telephone talking to family members, co-workers, church members and her array of friends. She was never too busy to talk and was generous in offering her opinion, wisdom and sound counsel to any who would listen. She loved visitors and would engage them in conversation the entire visit as she walked them to their cars talking, laughing and enjoying their company. Her neighbors knew and appreciated her as an observant and caring community member and she and her husband were faithful to keep watch over their neighbors’ yards to ensure that no harm came to anyone. A Time To Be Remembered She leaves to cherish fond memories: a loving husband, Hercules Moore; her children: Hurclen Moore, Christopher Allen Moore and Elizabeth Carol Moore; grandchildren: Brittany P. Graham, Christopher “C.J.” (Keyanna) Moore, Jr and Shayla Davis; a great grandchild, Jalen; two sisters: Dr. Flossie Bartell Jackson of Dillon, SC and Queen Elizabeth Wallace of Lake City, SC; two brothers: Eugene (Diane) Wallace and Howard (Gloria) Wallace both of Lake City, SC; a special daughter that she loved as her own child, Janet Denise Brown; special nieces and a nephew that she helped to raise: Rev.
