Ms. Ruth James of Dillon, SC departed this earthly life on June, 27, 2022. A Celebration of Life will take place Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at St. Paul AME Church in Dillon, SC. Burial will follow in Sellers Chapel Cemetery.
“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:6-7 Ruth James was born to Jessie Lee “Bo Peep” James and the late Luther James on February 4, 1961, in Dillon County, South Carolina. She departed her earthly life Monday, June 27, 2022, after a brief illness, and she was preceded in death by her brother: Willie Lee James and brother-in-law: Kenny Vanderhall. Ruth attended the Dillon County Schools. She started her journey as a machine operator at Dillon Yarn Corporation and worked there for 30 years until they closed. Then she worked at Major’s Cleaners until her health started to fail. Ruth was a dedicated and loyal worker. She loved her family and the children of the community. She was looked at by the children as a mother figure. Ruth was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior, and she was a faithful member until her health failed. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. Ruth James leaves to cherish her mother, Jessie “Bo Pete” James and four children: Demetria James of Latta, SC, Calvin James (Christy) of Florence, SC, Tomeka James of Floyddale, SC, and Luther James of Dillon, SC: she also leaves to cherish three sisters: Queenie Mae James of N.Y., Neser “Niecy” James of Floyddale, SC and Mary Elizabeth “Mama Gail” Vanderhall of Temperance Hill; two brothers: Allen James of Sellers, SC, and Anthony James of Floyddale, SC; she also leaves to cherish seven grandchildren, three of whom were raised in the home: Ty-Sean Burgess, Kamori and Kaden Rogers and also Ke’Osha, Christian, Camden and Keytara James; she also leaves to cherish one great grand: Teigon Lloyd; four aunts: Deloris (James) Campbell of Dillon, SC, Lisha Mae Knight of Washington, DC, Betty Emanuel of Jersey City, NJ, and Rose Marie Legette of Sellers, SC; one uncle: Earl “Ham” (Elizabeth) Braddy of Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends
