Obituary For Mr. Columbus Rogers

Bo, as he was affectionately known, was the third child born to Joe and Virgie Rogers. He was reared in Panama City, Florida and attended the public schools of Bay County. He was a 1958 graduate of Rosenwald High School. He also attended Gulf Cost Junior College, where he sought a career in the medical field.

Those who knew Bo know that he was all about work. His motto was, “If you want something, work for it.” He was driven by three outstanding qualities: determination, commitment, and reliability.

Those qualities would aid him throughout his life. Bo became known as a responsible worker at an early age. Being such, he was able to accomplish a lot during his working career. That career began as a young lad working at several business venues that his father ran.

As a young adult, Bo worked for many years at Seven Seas Restaurant. There he developed a love for the art of cooking. Later in life, he opened his own restaurant, Bo’s, on Cove Boulevard (as it was then called) in the mid 1980s.

Bo also fulfilled his dream of working in the medical field for forty plus years. He worked in the operating room at Bay Medical Center (now Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital). He NEVER missed one day of work upon his retirement in 2023.

In addition to his parents, Bo was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Rogers and Jack Rogers, and two sisters, Clematea Rogers Gary and JoAnn Rogers. Bo will be remembered by those who knew him, respected him and loved him, especially his family.

Forever cherishing his memories are three brothers, Joseph Rogers, Jr. and wife Lottie of New Orleans, Louisiana, Leon Rogers and wife Shela of New Jersey, and Robert Rogers of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; one uncle, Joe Lewis McGriff of Orlando, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends

A Homegoing Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Battle Mortuary Chapel located at 1123 MLK Boulevard in Panama City with Bishop Lonnie Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery with the caring staff of Battle Mortuary directing. Public viewing will be Friday, November 24, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Battle Mortuary.

I was fortunate to work with Bo for over 20 years at Bay Medical Center Surgery Department; he was the very definition of caring, compassion, and work ethic. He brought light to all our lives. I know your family will miss him greatly, but be comforted that he is in the best hands now.

Mr. Bo was a hard worker who always shared his knowledge with all he came in contact with. He will definitely be missed. May you as his family, find comfort in each other and your faith.
