As we reflect on the beautiful life of Charita Nicole Collier, born January 28, 1985, and called home too soon on November 10, 2024, let us never forget her radiant spirit, deep faith, and enduring light.
For 14 years, Charita was the beloved wife of Aubray Collier, with whom she shared a beautiful partnership, grounded in love, mutual respect, and a shared devotion to faith and family. She also leaves behind her committed, loving, cherished parents, Alex and Debra Thompson; her beloved mother-in-law, Sharon Dunbar; her faithful and devoted sister, Lakessia Kilgore (Jamell, husband), and her loyal and dedicated niece, Raven Kilgore, and nephews, Braxton Thompson, Airon Kilgore, all with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Charita was a proud aunt and surrogate mother to Kaed and Kinsley Holmes. Charita was warmly embraced by in-laws, Devin Collier (Michelle), Kevin Collier (Courtney), Shanavior Plummer (Reshard), and Chavez Holmes. Her warmth and kindness extended far beyond her immediate family and touched the lives of many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances whose lives she enriched with her warmth and guidance.
Family of God Baptist Church was Charita's extended family for 25 years. Her voice was a constant melody gracing the choir, and her energy helped bring the vision of a revitalized children's church to life—along with teaching Sunday School for high schoolers. Her passion for ministry didn’t stop there. Always an innovator, Charita restarted the backpack blessings that her mother, Debra, initiated. She ignited a spark in the church's backpack ministry, providing students with the means necessary to begin their educational journey.
As an educator at Margaret K. Lewis School, Charita was more than just a teacher—she was a mentor, an advocate, and a friend to students with unique abilities. Her award as 'Rookie Teacher of the Year' was more than deserved; it was earned through commitment, dedication, and an unwavering conviction in the potential of every child.
Charita’s vibrant spirit and unwavering faith was more than just noticed— it was felt. Her smile brightened the darkest days, and her laughter was as uplifting as the songs she sang.
Charita, who shared her faith generously, will be remembered for her boundless kindness, her love, her voice, and commitment to family, church, and community. Her legacy of love, faith, and service must forever live on in the hearts and actions of all who knew her. May she find eternal peace in the arms of the savior she adored.
Goodbye is not forever. Goodbye is not the end. It simply means I'll miss you until we meet again.
