James Adams Allen the son of the late Brother Allen and Annie Bell Adams Allen, was born on September 4, 1946, in Madison, Georgia. He graduated from Pearl High School in 1966 and was drafted into the United States Army. James received an honorable discharge after two years of service. Upon his return to Madison, he worked for Pennington Seed, the Morgan County Middle School, and the Morgan County Recreation Department to name a few. In the late 70’s James began working at General Motors Assembly Plant where he worked faithfully until he retired in 2008 when the plant closed.

On December 26, 1972, he was united in holy matrimony to Betty Jean Davis; and this union was blessed with two children, James A. Allen, II and Shannon Allen.

James was a proud member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served on the Senior Usher Board and went on to become President of the Senior Ushers. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone he met. He had a pleasant personality and was sure to make you smile or laugh in his presence. His passion was aiding and working with the children in the community. James enjoyed taking the youth on trips to the Perry Fair, away basketball games, Six Flags, the park, lake, swimming pool, and volunteering in the concession stand at basketball games at the Morgan County High Schools. He received a host of awards from the church and the community for his service and dedication to the youth, his church, and his family. To name a few; In 1986, he received the Father of the Year Award from Head Start, An Award for Outstanding Community Service from the Pearl-Burney Alumni Association, Inc., Certificate of Appreciation of devoted and valuable Services Rendered to Morgan County Crisis Organization in (1992); Man of the Year award from Pastor Hoke L. Smith in (1993) and the Doorkeeper Award in 2008 during the Annual Men’s Day Celebration, again just to name a few.

James was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Annie McClelland and Delores Carter.

James leaves behind to cherish his many memories, his devoted wife of 48 years Betty D. Allen; his loving children, James A. Allen, II (Tiffany) and Shannon Allen Veasley (Nicholas); a special great nephew who was like a son, DaMarkeo McClelland; six grandchildren: Malia Veasley, Laila Veasly, Lejend Saint James, Alexis Veasley, Jordan Veasley, and Mishiya Jeffries; sisters: Marie Andrews Jordan and Betty Jean Andrews Williams; a brother: Freddie L.
