Obituary For Karen W. Reid

Mrs. Karen Wyatt Reid of Madison, Georgia departed this life Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Morgan Memorial Medical Center, Madison, Georgia. Karen was born on March 18, 1948 to the late Fred Wyatt Sr. and Annie Bell Wyatt in Madison, GA. At an early age, Karen joined Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Madison where she occasionally served on the usher board. Karen received her education in the Pearl and Burney Street schools.

In 1967, Karen joined in marriage to the late John Henry Reid Sr. Together, they raised a blended family here in Madison. John and Karen were not only partners in marriage but also partners on the dance floor. They shared a love for “getting down” and were often seen locally doing moves that no one could duplicate.

Karen worked for several companies in the manufacturing field. Some of those companies include Hometown Manufacturing in Greensboro, GA, The Teddy Bear Place in Madison, and Wellington Puritan Mills, Inc. for many years in the Finishing Department. After Wellington closed, Karen would later be employed at the Hampton Inn in Madison until she retired.

Preceding Karen in death are her husband of over 50 years, John Henry Reid Sr., her son Christopher Lee Reid, her brothers Ronald Wyatt and Fred Wyatt Jr. and her granddaughter Kenyatta Millbrooks.

Karen is survived by her children; Sharon Ballard and Samuel Ward III of Rutledge, GA, Valorie Matthews and Patricia Reid Keeley (Maurice) of Madison, GA. Step-children; John Henry Reid Jr and Frankie Reid Sr of Athens, GA, Tammie Griffin of Atlanta, GA, and Nicholas Veasley of Covington, GA. One aunt, Hattie Bartlett of Miami, FL. Siblings; Mary Armour of New Brunswick, NJ, Eddie Wyatt Sr. (Lurene) and Maggie Harris (Dwayne) of Madison, GA, Lee Jackson Wyatt (Doris) of Watkinsville, GA, and Willie James Wyatt (Melinda) of Monroe, GA. Karen was also blessed with 34 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and host of other siblings, cousins and friends.

Viewing and visitation will be Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Bernard's Madison Chapel starting at 3:00 P.M. and ending at 6:00 P.M.. Her Life's Celebration will be held at Union Springs Baptist Church, 1400 West Main Street, Rutledge, Georgia Wednesday at 1:00 P.M., Pastor Robert L. Terrell, Jr. will present the Eulogy with Minister Denny Wyatt officiating. Mrs. Reid will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon on Wednesday. Interment will follow in the Cemetery at Springfield Baptist Church, 2050 Bethany Church Road, Madison, Georgia.
