Obituary For Maynelle Harwell

Bernard's Family Funeral Care, The Madison Chapel, announces the passing of Mrs. Maynelle Harwell of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Madison, Georgia. Mrs. Harwell was the wife of the late Reverend James Harwell.

Mrs. Maynelle Harwell was born in 1934 in Apalachee, Georgia. After graduating from high school, she soon met her life-long “sweetheart” (her favorite name for Reverend James Harwell). Not long after 17, the two married and began almost 60 years of ministry together. They faithfully served the Lord together, starting churches and Christian schools in multiple states, and, in their later years, started Feeding the Flock tape ministry, sending out tapes of Reverend James Harwell's sermons all over the world. While working in the Christian schools they started, Mrs. Maynelle wrote and directed dozens of plays that the students performed. These plays were exceptional and resulted in recognition from newspapers and television stations. Almost everyone who knew Mrs. Maynelle remembers her huge smile, her joyful personality, her beautiful singing, her high heels, and most importantly, her love for Lord and Reverend Harwell. She never missed an opportunity to share the gospel, and she made sure everyone knew how much she loved her “sweetheart”. One of her favorite things to do was sing, and her solos blessed many people over the years. She loved singing, “What a Day that will be when my Jesusus I shall see” . On Sunday morning, September 7th, Mrs. Maynelle got to experience the day she had sung about for so long. While she will be missed terribly, we know that she is singing with that heavenly choir with a voice that will never weaken and a smile that will never fade!

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Historic Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery, Madison, Georgia.
