Obituary For Joseph Greene

As the third of six children born to James Luther and Cora Coleman Greene, Joseph Lee Greene entered this life on August 12, 1937 in Warren County, North Carolina. He quietly departed this life on February 21, 2020 from the home where he was being faithfully attended to by devoted family members. Like all of the children of James and Cora Green’s household, Joseph was introduced to Christ early in his life, and was baptized at the Cooks Chapel Baptist Church. He was educated in the Warren County Public School System, graduating from what was then the Warren County Training School, in the class of 1956. Immediately after graduation, he moved to Newark, New Jersey where he found employment with the Monsanto Company. But at the death of their mother, Joseph returned to North Carolina where he would live out the remainder of his days. Once back at home, he was employed for a brief period at Glen Raven Textile Mills in Norlina, North Carolina, but soon left that establishment to join the Harriet and Henderson Textile Company where his exemplary work record earned him annual awards from his employers and set a positive example for his nieces and nephews. They say their “Uncle Joe” go to work every day, always on time, always to do his best. His friends often marveled at Joe’s consistent perfect attendance records. He stayed with Harriet and Henderson until his retirement. At home, Joseph was totally committed to his family. He wore the mantle of support and protection that they could always depend on: a faithful brother for his siblings, a dutiful uncle and father figure for his nieces and nephews, a steadfast and honorable neighbor. He was their pillow of strength. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his younger brother, George Ralph Greene; and by his great nephew, Cary Alonzo Greene, Jr. (affectionately known as L.G.) Among the family left to cherish their memories of his love and kindness are; three sisters, Ms. Sallie Howell and Ms. Maggie Greene both of Wise, North Carolina, and Ms. Barbara Deans (Alfred) of Nashville, North Carolina; one brother, Mr. James Greene (Shirley) of Wise, North Carolina; seven nieces, Ms. Dianne Brown, Ms. Cynthia Walker (LeRoy), Ms. Kim Hubbard, Ms. Sandra Townes, Ms. Carol Williams (Samuel), Ms. Keisha Greene, and Ms. Anita Deans; five nephews, Mr. James Greene III (Tracey), Mr. Alonzo Greene, Mr. Aaron Green (Carla), Mr. George LaMont Greene, and Alfred Deans III (Nicole); twenty two great nieces and nephews; thirty-four great great nieces and nieces; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 28, 2020 at 12:00 Noon at Cooks Chapel Baptist Church in Warrenton, North Carolina. Reverend Tony W. Cozart, Pastor will officiate and burial will follow at church cemetery.

The body will be on view Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Boyd & Royster Funeral Services in Warrenton, North Carolina starting at 1:30 PM until 6:00 PM.
