Every light that shines must eventually fade
Richard and Mary Perry Jordan welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on March 6th, 1948 in Warren County, NC. Margaret Louise Jordan was her name. She joined Snow Hill Baptist Church at an early age and later transferred her membership to Fork Chapel Baptist Church. Margaret gave her hand in marriage to Henry Pettaway Sr and after his passing, married Percy Alston. After battling health issues, she left her earthly body on Wednesday, September 23rd at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC surrounded by loved ones.
Margaret, or Sweetie Pie, as she was affectionately known attended Warren County Schools and graduated from John R. Hawkins before attending St. Augustine College in Raleigh, NC. She was employed with the Warren County School System and worked at Mariam Boyd Elementary School as a Teacher Assistant for a number of years before working with the Warren County ABC Store where she subsequently retired from. During this career, she enjoyed people watching and people talking. It was her joy and her smile were theirs.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her first husband and her sister Carolyn Jordan Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and attentive husband, Percy Alston, of the home, her children, Valerie Jordan of Raleigh, NC, Yolanda Pettaway, Diquashia Alston and Seth Alston, all of Warrenton, NC, children from the union of marriage, Amanda Pettaway, Ulysess Alston, Keisha Alston, Rashee Alston, Cliff Alston, Duane Alston, Carlos White and Jonathan Braxton, her brothers, Richard Jordan (Beverly) and Ballard Jordan (Debra), both of Norristown, PA, Destry Jordan of Raleigh, NC, and her sister, Jennifer Pierce (Chris), A special grandchild she raised as her own Marquita Jordan of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Joshua, Symone, Kameron Pettaway of Warrenton, NC and Bryson Jordan of Raleigh, NC, eighteen additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, Louis Smith of Falls Church, VA, and Anthony Alston of Warrenton, NC; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends along with a special father figure, Johnnie Jones of Warrenton, NC.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
