Gregory Jerome Miller was born on February 18, 1952, in Elloree, South Carolina. Gregory was the firstborn, and the apple of his maternal grandmother’s eye.

Gregory sensed his need of a Savior at an early age, insisting—despite the raised eyebrows of others because of his age—that the Pastor of the Grainger Baptist Church baptize him. After baptism, Gregory served the Lord to the best of his ability as a member of the youth choir.

Gregory attended school in Elloree, South Carolina; Claflin College, in Columbia, South Carolina; had a short tour in the Army; and relocated to New York City. It was there, in 1983, that he met Rehnea Brown at the Rush Temple AME Zion Church in Jamaica, NY. They were married in 1984. To this union were born 3 children: Armand Jerome, Amaris Jacinth, and Amari Jamal. Gregory served Rush Temple in song for over 20+ years, singing to the glory of God, until the family relocated to Quitman, GA. Once here, the Millers joined Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where Gregory served faithfully with the Senior and Combined choirs, until the pandemic caused worship services to be cancelled.

Gregory was a kind, gentle man, who always made time to listen. Gregory had two great passions: his family, and singing—and sing he did! Songs like “It was A Great Thing”, “I’ll Go If I Have to Go By Myself”, and so many old hymns we loved!!

On August 25, Gregory was called home, stepping out of the miracle line, onto the morning train.

He leaves to treasure his life and legacy, his Wife of 36 years, Rehnea; Children: Armand (Cristen) Miller; Amaris (Christian) Durant, and Amari Miller; Grandchildren: Destiny Durant, Nya Durant, Harlem Miller, Justice Durant, and Christian Durant, Jr.; Sisters: Juanita Dewitt, Vivian Butler-Richardson, Pia Easton; Brothers: Burgess B. Butler, Jeffrey Dash, Tyrone Sheard, Steven Baker, Craig Sheard, Jason Baker; Aunties: Harriet “Dot” Aiken, Mary Fordham, Carolyn Butler, Patricia (Richard) Smoot, Barbara (Joseph) Butler-Ham; Uncles: Willie Dash, and Samuel Brown; a ride-or-die Friend, Robert Hamilton, along with a great host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended church family, friends and admirers

Graveside Service for Mr. Gregory Miller will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery, Quitman, Georgia.
