Obituary For Lucy Mae Ashley

Lucy Mae Ashley, affectionately known as “Granny,” was born on September 4, 1928, in Madison, Florida, to the late Daniel and Matilda Elizabeth Thomas. Throughout her life, Lucy was known for her love of family, her kind and giving spirit, and most importantly, her faithful service to Jehovah. She remained devoted to her faith until the end of her life, continuing to attend and comment at meetings.

Lucy received her education in the public schools of Madison, Florida. She later met and married TJ Ashley, and their union was blessed with two sons and five daughters. She later welcomed another son, Michael Andrew Ashley.

Around 1997–1998, Lucy began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. As her knowledge and love for Jehovah grew, she made the decision to dedicate her life to Him. On June 26, 1999, in Albany, Georgia, Lucy symbolized her dedication through baptism. Her faith became an important part of her daily life. She greatly enjoyed attending meetings and participating in the ministry, sharing with others the Bible truths and hope that had become so precious to her. Even as her health declined, her love for Jehovah remained strong.

“Granny” also found great joy in the simple things that made life beautiful. One of her greatest passions was working in her garden, where she especially loved planting and caring for flowers. Her hands were just as gifted in the kitchen. Her family and friends fondly remember the hot biscuits, potato pies, and cakes she lovingly prepared and shared. These were more than just meals and desserts—they were expressions of Granny’s love and care for those around her.

Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, TJ Ashley; her parents, Daniel and Matilda Elizabeth Thomas; three brothers, Daniel Thomas, Charlie Thomas, and Tommy Thomas; one sister, Annie Ruth Franklin; her oldest son, Robert James Ashley; one daughter, Pauline King; and one son-in-law, David Lloyd Douglass.

She leaves a loving family to cherish her memory, including four daughters, Rosa Jones of Quitman, Georgia, Polly Douglass of Quitman, Georgia, Matties Gosier (Charles) of College Park, Georgia, and Thelma Ashley of Stonecrest, Georgia; two sons, Ernest Ashley of Hiram, Georgia, and Michael Ashley (Samiko) of Lithonia, Georgia; one sister, Lenoris Thomas of Madison, Florida; and a very special niece, Glenn Cobb of Madison, Florida.

Granny’s legacy also lives on through a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, spiritual brothers and sisters, and many dear friends whose lives were touched by her love and presence.

For nearly a century, Lucy Mae Ashley lived a life filled with family, faith, service, and love. Those who knew her will remember her tending her flowers, preparing something special in the kitchen, spending time with her family, and faithfully serving Jehovah. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the resurrection hope she treasured and shared with others

Family Visitation will be held Friday, September 18, 2026 in the BTW Funeral Services' Chapel, 6:00 - 8:00 PM

Memorial Service for Mrs. Lucy Mae Ashley will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses,1820 Moultrie Road, Quitman, Georgia.
