Obituary For Moses "MoMo" Brown

Moses Remar Brown, affectionately known by his family as “MoMo,” passed away on October 7, 2025, at the age of 74 at his residence at the Dry Lake Personal Care Home in Dixie, Georgia.

He was born on January 4, 1951, in Valdosta, Georgia, to Mrs. Essie Mae Johnson-Lovette and Mr. Moses Randolph Brown. He was raised in Barney and Quitman, Georgia. Moses attended Morven Rosenwald Elementary School and later graduated from Brooks County High School in Quitman, Georgia.

At a young age Moses gave his life to Christ and was baptized. Before physical health challenges limited his mobility, he was a faithful member of Simmon Hill Baptist Church, where he enjoyed worship and fellowship and singing in the men’s choir.

Moses dedicated many years of faithful service to the Brooks Service Center volunteering as a custodian for the Brooks County Board of Education schools. Moses was known for his reliability and easygoing spirit. He made a lasting impact on those he worked with and served.

Moses spent much of his earlier adult life as a proud homeowner before moving to the Dry Lake Personal Care Home in Dixie, Georgia. There, he was lovingly cared for and enjoyed the fellowship of the other residents. Moses always had a keen sense of humor. After moving to the home, he often quipped, “I don’t have to do anything. I don’t even have to make my bed!” – a reflection of the comfort he found in that season of his life.

In his most recent years, he looked forward to his twice weekly visits to the Innovative Senior Solutions program in Valdosta, Georgia, where he enjoyed outings to restaurants, movies, and other activities alongside fellow participants. These weekly excursions brought him great joy, laughter, and connection.

Moses was preceded in death by his mother, Essie Mae Lovette, his father, Mr. Moses Randolph Brown and his bonus mother who raised and cared for him, Dorothy Hunter Johnson; sister- Bernice Brown, brother - Bernard Brown, and a bonus brother Wilmer Solomon.

He is survived by his sister, Brenda Bess (Dudley) of Ocala, Florida, a brother, Clayton Lovette (Carla Lee) of Gainesville, Florida, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.

He also leaves to cherish his memory his beloved bonus sister, Vernal Solomon-Morrison, affectionately known to him as “Jean”- who always looked out for his welfare and guaranteed that he was never without his favorite thing, spending money!

Moses will be lovingly remembered for his warm heart, sense of humor, and the love he shared with everyone who knew him.

A special thank you to the following people for their care and concern for Moses: Mrs. Clara Cobb, Ms. Tiffanie Thomas and all the caregivers and residents of the Dry Lake Personal Care Home who became like a second family to him, and who truly loved him and miss him dearly. Also, the Pruitt Health Hospice staff of Valdosta, Georgia who made his final days and hours comfortable.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 – “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, 11:00AM at the BTW funeral chapel in Quitman, Georgia.
