Deacon Roger Wilkins Scott, Sr. was born the second son to the late Lawyer and Hanna Scott on March 2, 1931 in Brooks County, Georgia. At an early age, he surrendered his life to God and joined the Simmon Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board, Deacon Ministry, Senior Choir, Male Choir, Usher Ministry and anywhere he was needed. He was a Passionately Devoted “Sports Fan” and a “Supporter of Sports”. He loved the Atlanta Braves!
Deacon Roger W. Scott, Sr. received his education from the Brooks County School System. He also served his Country with distinct Honor in the United States Army. After performing his military duties, he continued his education at Savannah State College in Savannah, Georgia, where he majored in Education. He was employed by the Brooks County School System for over 31 years, until retirement. Deacon Roger W. Scott, Sr. was also a devoted member of Walnut Hill Masonic Lodge #313.
Deacon Scott was preceded in death by his Wife, Willie Mae Scott and Son, Allery Lambert; Two Brothers, Julian L. (J.L.) Scott, Sr. and Willie Scott; and a Adopted Sister, Elfletta Allison.
He leaves to cherish his memories: Son, Dr. Roger W. Scott, Jr. (Marvele), Adairsville, GA; Daughter, Ms. Charlotte Alexander, Quitman, GA; Adopted Sister, Ms. Gloria Johnson, Thomasville, GA; Grandsons, Christopher and Jeremiah; Granddaughters, Jessica and Alexandra; Special Grandchildren, Trevon, Stephon, Stephone and Lucy; Special Friends, Ms. Bernice Ponder and Mr. Taurus Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside Service for Deacon Roger W. Scott, Sr. will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Simmon Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Dixie, GA, Rev. James Huewitt, Pastor/Eulogist; Family Visitation: Friday, January 8, 2021 from 6:00-7:00 PM in the BTW Funeral Services Chapel.
