A Time to Be Born Eliza Washington was born on October 24, 1945, the second child of the late Sipeoy and Gladys Washington. She grew up in Benbow Village and the family later relocated to Washington Park.

A Time to Love Eliza was the wife of the late Velton Brown. She was married to the love of her life for 50 years. Through this union, they were blessed with 5 daughters: Elisa, LaWonda, LaFonda, Velma, and Cassandra.

Life Interests Eliza loved children and worked diligently at Washington Park Child Development Center. She enhanced her career by enrolling at Nova University-Fort Lauderdale, FL where she graduated with honors earning her Bachelor of Science degree. Through hard work and dedication, she became the Lead Director and proudly held her position for over 30 years until retirement. Although retired, she continued to be involved in children’s lives by being a devoted Sunday school teacher and vacation bible school teacher. One of her most enjoyable tasks was being the “neighborhood dentist” to numerous children and a few adults as well. Eliza’s life interests included attending church services, reading her Bible, listening to gospel music, shopping and going places with her sister Diane, being a helping hand to others, babysitting but most of all spending time with family especially her grandchildren. Eliza was also involved in many organizations such as Toys for Tots, the Annual Thanksgiving Food Distribution, the Annual Christmas Food Distribution, and the Washington Park committee. Eliza was a well-known woman who had many names, but she will always be remembered as a small woman with a big heart.

Her Service Eliza was a faithful member of Tabernacle Witness Deliverance in Clewiston, FL under the leadership of Mother Bernice Woodard for many years before becoming a faithful member of Pentecostal Faith Cathedral in Moore Haven, FL under the leadership of Apostle Robert E. Bell and Evangelist Frances Bell. She was a dedicated and devoted member where was a Missionary and Sunday school teacher.

A Time to Mourn On Monday, November 9, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones, the Lord called Eliza home. Eliza was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years (Velton Brown), her parents (Sipeoy and Gladys Washington) and four brothers (Bobby Lee, Leon, Leroy, and Charles Washington).

Her Family The memory of Eliza will be cherished forever and ever in the hearts of: 5 Daughters: Elisa L. Brown, LaWonda S. Kelly, LaFonda S. Brown, Velma L. Brown, and Cassandra L. Campbell (Rayon) all of Moore Haven, FL. 5 Granddaughters: VaQuenthia Brown, Phyllisian Kelly, Wilyatta Hallback (Duriel- deceased), Sheree Rich (Chris), and Riawna Kelly. 2 Grandsons: Antwonne McCloud (Laura) and De’Vontae Campbell. 5 Great Granddaughters: Taraji Terry, Nadiyah Odom, Naiomi Odom, Julianna Flowers, and Heart Downs. 2 Great Grandsons: D’Mari Hallback and Gladstone Coke III. Sisters: Joann Odoms, Francine Johnson, Diane Croskey (Donald-deceased), Peggy Washington, Helen Dixon (Oscar), and Melody Parker. Brothers: Sipeoy Washington Jr (Darlene), Lawrence Washington and Dennis Washington. Special Nephews: Roland Croskey, Bobby Washington, and D’Arrion Washington. Special Nieces: J’Sha Myers and Brooklynn Sanders. Godchildren: Eddie Hall, Almeeta Brown, Akkua Hallback, Latonya Hall (deceased), Felton Huggins Jr., Shayla Wilcox, and Keyhari & Jahari Moise. Special People: Phillip Kelly, Harold Rico, Johnitha Simmons, Delvin Hughes, and Artavistus Ware III. Lifetime Friends: Dale Hall and Shirley Crosby A host of other relatives, friends, and church members.
