OBITUARY Mrs. Teketa “Keta” Lockett-Brown peacefully transitioned from Earth to Heaven at 59 years on Sunday, June 6, 2021, surrounded by her family. Teketa was born to Melvin and Pauline Pelt Lockett on January 13, 1962, in Belle Glade, Florida. Teketa was educated in the School District of Palm Beach County, graduating from Glades Central Community High School in 1979. In 1984, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), and later, her Master of Education degree from Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Teketa was inducted into the Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated during the spring of 1981 and recently celebrated 40 years of membership with her Line Sisters. She was also a member of the Glades Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she was committed to service in the Glades community. For more than 30 years, Teketa worked as an educator in the School District of Palm Beach County, where she recently served as a Court Liaison. Earlier in her career, she worked in migrant education, where she shaped the lives of numerous students, parents, and families. Her passion for her work in migrant education was heavily influenced by her experiences as a migrant student, resulting in a career that spanned more than 20 years. Her teaching resume encompassed assignments at Lake Shore Middle School, Pahokee Middle-Senior High School, and the Department of Juvenile Justice. Teketa’s enormous creativity fostered an environment in which her students were motivated to complete various projects with great enthusiasm that subsequently enhanced their academic, professional, and life skills. In addition, her devotion to her alma mater inspired many of her students to attend and graduate from her beloved FAMU. Teketa learned at an early age the importance of accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord, initially worshipping with her family at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Raderville. Later, she and her family joined St. Paul’s Church of God in Christ in Belle Glade, Florida. As an adult, she recommitted her life to Jesus Christ and experienced the Holy Spirit Baptism. Teketa was devoted to her church, serving on the Finance Committee, Hospitality Committee, and Mass Choir. She faithfully attended and supported the work of the ministry. Teketa married her high school sweetheart, Vance Brown, who loved and tenderly cared for her until her transition. They shared 34 years of holy matrimony. This union was blessed with two children: Vanisha and Vionni. She was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Melvin Lockett. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Mr. Vance Brown of Belle Glade, Florida; daughters: Dr. Vanisha Lockett Brown of Belle Glade, Florida and Mrs. Vionni Brown-Morgan (Everton) of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; bonus daughter: Mrs. Jessica Saunders (Oliver) of Belle Glade, Florida; mother: Mrs. Pauline Pelt Lockett of Belle Glade, Florida; six grandchildren: Ariyanna, Vance, Evan, and Ensley Morgan, all of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; Jayda Moore and Kalan Brown, all of Belle Glade, Florida; two brothers: Dr. Ricky Poole Lockett (Katherine) of Clearwater, Florida and Mr. Thomas Lockett (Regina) of West Palm Beach, Florida; two sisters: Mrs. Paula Lockett Watson (Elder Donald) of Port Saint Lucie, Florida and Mrs. Melvye Lockett Bowens (Cheree) of Chicago, Illinois; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Sheryl Walker Slade, Mrs. Marilyn Brown Owens, Mrs. Marla Brown Harris, and Mrs. Angyl Brown Lovelace (Milton), all of Houston, Texas; brothers-in-law: Mr. Clarence Brown, III (Johnetta) of Byron, Georgia, Elder Daryl Brown, Sr. (Sharmay) of Wellington, Florida, Mr. Jonathan Brown of Tampa, Florida, and Mr. Derek Brown of West Palm Beach, Florida; uncles: Mr. Henry Lockett, Sr. (Florence) and Mr. Eddie James Lawrence, all of Belle Glade, Florida; aunts: Mrs. Betty Pelt Reeves, Mrs. Effie Pelt Yant, and Ms. Jeanette Pelt, all of Atlanta, Georgia; Mrs. Ethel Lockett Randolph (Bruce) of West Palm Beach, Florida and Mrs. Jessie Mae Thomas of Cincinnati, Ohio; Godparents: Mr. and Mrs. John Parker (Alveta) of New Brunswick, New Jersey; Godchildren: Ms. April Jones of West Palm Beach, Florida and Mr. Demetrius Martin of Belle Glade, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

I met Sister Teketa Lockett Brown years ago in the gifted program. She was very beautiful inside and out. Intelligent, gentle, kind and respectful person who loved God and humanity. I know that "Teketa" is enjoying the presence of God in her new home. I pray the God of Comfort blesses you with the peace that surpasses all understanding.
Keta and I met almost three years ago. It was my first day of radiation therapy and I sat down next to her as we waited our turns. Daily for weeks we sat together, part of a group waiting and talking. Keta made us smile, always kind, positive and encouraging. She spoke fondly of her family, church and community. To her family, May her memories sustain you and comfort you during your time of loss. God bless her always, Julia Dattolo
