Charles Garrett Atkins
Charles Garrett Atkins affectionately known as "Gary Moe" was born on January
31, 1963 in South Boston, Virginia, to the late Lewis H. and Martha Royster Atkins. He was the second of two children to this union.
At a very early age, Garrett joined the St. Luke Baptist Church in Skipwith, Virginia and became an active participant in Sunday School and church.
Garrett received his formal education at Mecklenburg County Public Schools. He graduated from Bluestone Senior High School in 1981 and continued his educational path at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia.
With an esteem of love for the Tidewater region, he found employment in Williamsburg, Virginia which included Governor's Arms, Cascade Restaurant,Eastern State Hospital and Whiting’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services. He retired from Eastern State Hospital in December 2023 after 36 years of service. Garrett was always cooperative and willing to support and assist those who needed his help. Thus, his life was enriched through his work experiences and opportunities which afforded him a positive attitude and earned him the respect of his colleagues on and off the job. Nevertheless, we cannot forget his willingness to speak his mind.
Garrett has departed this earthly life, but he leaves a legacy of love, kindness and compassion. He leaves to cherish a lifetime of beautiful memories, his brother, Calvin D.
