Remembering David
David Lincoln Moseley, Sr., son of the late James Douglas Moseley, Sr. and the late Willie Clarice Gregory Moseley was born on September 25, 1937, in Boydton, Virginia. David, the fourth of six children, was educated in the public schools of Mecklenburg County, Virginia. In 1955 David graduated from East End High School and attended St. Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, Virginia, where in 1959 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science. In 1969 he received a Master of Education from the University of Lynchburg, formerly known as Lynchburg College. David then completed additional studies at the University of Virginia, and Virginia Polytechnical University.
David began his 32-year education career in Mecklenburg County, VA. His career was interrupted by the Selective Service who drafted him into the military. David served in the United States Army for 2 years. Upon completion of his tour of duty, David returned to Virginia and resumed his career in Appomattox. David taught Industrial Arts for 4 years at Dunbar High School, was Assistant Principal at Robert E. Lee, Linkhorne, and E C Glass for 10 years. He then moved into Administration with Lynchburg City Schools and served as Director of Adult and Vocational Education for 13 years. After retiring from the Lynchburg City School System, David worked at Central Virginia Community College as the Related Instructional Coordinator for Apprenticeship Training for 3 years and served on the Amherst County School Board for 9 years. Later in life he was a volunteer at Centra Cardiac Rehabilitation program.
David met the love of his life, the late Annie Belle Farrar, while they were both teaching at Hillcrest Elementary School in Clarksville, Virginia. They were married on January 11, 1964, and were blessed with two children, Elizabeth Clarice Moseley and David Lincoln Moseley, Jr.
David was an active member of Jerusalem Temple United Holiness Church in Boydton, Virginia until moving to Lynchburg, Virginia where he joined Jackson Street United Methodist Church in 1966. He served as Lay Leader, Chaiman of the Board, Chairman of Finance, President of the United Methodist Men, Men’s choir member, and teacher for the Men’s Sunday School class. David also was Chairman of Trustees for the Lynchburg District of the United Methodist Church and several committees for the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
David was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and a Golden Heritage Life Member of the NAACP.
David joined Long Mountain Lodge #204 in November 1965 and served in all capacities. Most recently he was Past Master of Long Mountain Lodge. He joined Constantine Consistory #105 in March 1967 where he served in all capacities. Most recently as Past Commander and Chief. He also served as Grand First Lieutenant Commander of the Virginia Council of Deliberation. David was a member of the Aladin Temple in Roanoke, Virginia. He was also a Member of the Holy Royal Arch Masonry. David was a 33rd degree Mason.
David was also an active member of his community. He served on several boards and improvement projects including Habitat for Humanity and the Hunton Randolph Community Center.
David enjoyed being outdoors. He took pride in his well-manicured lawn and garden. He loved nature. He enjoyed watching all the animals that came through his yard. The birds, the occasional black bear, the ground hog that turned his pool house into a bachelor pad, the squirrels who were notorious for knocking over the bird feeder and even the deer who tried to eat all his vegetables.
David leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Elizabeth Clarice Moseley and David Lincoln Moseley, Jr (Leela). one sister, Christine Marcy, PhD., three sisters-in law Mavis Farrar, Audrey Clayton, and Annette Dudley(Reeves), one brother-in-law Arthur Farrar (Liz), one recently discovered cousin Mary Taylor, five nephews, eight nieces, six great nephews, 4 great nieces, five great-great nephews, three great-great nieces, three adopted daughters Maranda Payne, Tolear Walton, and Hilda Williams Giles and a host of cherished family and friends.
Visitation will held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at Jackson Street United Methodist Church; 901 Jackson Street, Lynchburg, VA. Funeral Service, Saturday, September 13,2025 with visitation beginning at 10:00am with the service beginning at 11:00am.
Interment will take place on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 11:00am.
The interment will take place at Fort Hill Memorial Park, 5196 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
