Virgina Wood Bowers-Fenty
OBITUARY
Virginia Eva Wood Bowers-Fenty was born on April 14, 1926, and departed this life on October 22, 2024 at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mattie Garrett Wood of Clarksville, VA, where she was born. From this union, Virgina was the youngest of eight children. Her siblings: Frederick, Donald, Willie Ruth, Charley Mae, Mattie, Carter, and Lillian preceded her in transitioning to glory.
Virginia graduated from Westend High School, attended Southside Virginia Community College and St. Paul’s College. She was employed by Burlington Industries for over 25 years, as a Lab Technician. Virginia was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Clarksville, VA, where she was a member of the choir, a Trustee and Mother of the Church. She also served as Treasurer during her life-long membership at the church. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP, member of Club Rivera, Averett Garden Club, an honorary member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Richmond Metropolitan Area Chapter and The Society, Incorporated, Chickahominy River Women Chapter.
Early in her life, Virginia married Alphonso H. Bowers. From this union, thirteen children were born: Virginia (Bunny) (Lloyd-deceased), Alfreda (Jack), Alphonso, Jr. (deceased) (Marva), Frederick (Carmaleta), Marcus, Nellie (Allen-deceased), Herbert, Carter (deceased), Troy, James (Sandra), Curtis, Vivian (Roger), Delta, her bonus daughter, Carmen Y. Daugherty and William (Bill) Ewing, her nephew, whom she considered a bonus son. Later in life, she married Clifford Fenty, who pre-deceased her.
Virginia’s greatest achievements in her life were her 13 children. She adored, protected and loved her children until her final minute on this earth. Her children loved her with all of their heart. They will carry on her legacy of love to continue to make her proud.
Virginia is survived by and leaves to mourn her, 11 of her 13 children, 32 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Virginia Wood Bowers-Fenty will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 3:00PM-7:00PM. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 with visitation at 10:00AM and funeral at 11:00AM. Funeral will be held at the Clarksville Baptist Church, 210 Fifth Street, Clarksville, VA.
