Sis Hughes and I were indelibly impacted by the ministry of the Reverend Doctor Christopher Von Cockrell. It was on the New Alpha Missionary Baptist facebook page where Sis Hughes first discovered Reverend and Lady Cockrell looking for a church home in Burlington, VT. They quickly gained the attention of the church family and we fortunately were able to ultimately install him as our Pastor. My personal relationship with him flourished and we became inseparable as friends. I carry so many warm and funny stories from the man who would become much more than a friend but a confidant and mentor. He was full of hope, genuine and thoughtful. His life and ministry instruction have proven invaluable in our home, my life and in my ministry. We both miss the man of God, though we know and understand that it was time for him to go home. We are truly fortunate that we had the opportunity to meet this man, the first lady and his family. Months will turn to years yet will will never forget this incredibly unique man that God saw fit to place in our lives. We know that Chris is with the Lord but even that doesn't take away that sense of loss that we feel in his absence.
We pray that the Lord bring the first lady and the family peace in this trying time of their loss. We stand with the family and friends and remain committed to a continued lifetime of love and support. We do this not only in the spirit of our church covenant but because of the heart relationship that we have with this family and the gift of the friendships that have been resultantly offered to us.
May the Lord keep us all...

May God Bless, comfort and give you strengthen during this difficult time. I know God will heal your broken heart and give you peace . Words cannot express the way you feel. I know, I've been there before. The memories you shared with each other will be there to enjoy. Sometimes you might laugh through your tears, sometimes you will laugh so hard. Great Memories is something you have to hold on too. When earth is no longer their home. Chris and I talked on the phone right before Thanksgiving, I was excited about the Bible class I'm taking. We was discussing the book of Jude and all the thing I had learned in this class. We had great talks and I truly miss him. Cousin: Jessica Amerson-Dobbs, Birmingham, AL
