Calvin Getter was born on May 17, 1935 in Clinton, SC, to Calvin and Mattie Getter. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday January 2, 2022. He was the only child born to their union.
His early life was spent on a farm in Clinton, with his family that included his Mother, Father, Grandmother Florence, and cousins,Thad and Lossie. He attended public school and one year of high school while living in Clinton. His family then migrated to New York where he continued his education. He graduated from Boys High School and then went on to Brooklyn College.
He was drafted into the Army in 1955. After being discharged from the Army, he worked for a short time selling insurance. He then started a lengthy career at the NYC Transit Authority. He finally retired after working 20 plus years as a Bus Operator. Calvin built many friendships at the Transit Authority, which lasted for an extremely long period of time. After retiring, Calvin decided to move to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lived 10 plus years.
Wanting to spend more time and care for his Mom and Aunt, he decided to move back south and relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lived until his passing. During his later years, he decided to join the neighborhood Senior Options. It was something he looked forward to doing and had great times with great people at the 'Center'. He formed numerous friendships there and will be sorely missed.
Calvin was a sports enthusiast and loved talking about history and politics. He was always willing to share his insight regarding historical or current events within mainstream media. Whether talking about sports or politics, He never met a debate that he didn't like.
Calvin had an infectious personality. Also affectionately known as Sonny, there was always joy and laughter when you were in his presence. He was a very loyal friend. He would do anything in his power to help you if he could. To know him was to truly love him.
Calvin leaves to mourn and honor his memory, his children, Dwayne, Michele and Tiffany; his grand-children, Tonev and Tory; his loving cousin, Lossie Pemberton; his loving and caring friend, Wendy Vinson; and a host of cousins and numerous friends.
The Homegoing services were held January 12, 2022.

Words can not begin to express my sadness in the passing of my dear loyal friend Calvin. Calvin was a good man who lived a life of always helping others in times of need and asking little for himself. His words of wisdom, encouragement, love and clever amusing wit will always be remembered in my heart. You are always loved and will never be forgotten. Wendy Vinson
