Obituary For Eugene McGowan

The Lord gathered another Angel on Sunday, June 30 2024. Mr. Eugene McGowan, Sr. age 87, earned his wings at Prisma Health of Laurens Hospital.

Born in Mountville, SC on July 4, 1937; he was the son of the late Homer and Etolia Atkinson McGowan.

Eugene retired from Clinton Mills after 26 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, exploring cars. His greatest joy cam from spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and making others smile and laugh.

Mr. McGowan was married to the love of his life the late Zemary Grant McGowan for 64 years. He was greeted at the Pearly Gates by her, his parents, his brothers: Johnny C. McGowan, America Lee McGowan, Calvin McGowan, and Henry McGowan. His sisters: Ida Mae McMorris, Mattie Lee Tribble, and Katherine Valentine and a special niece: Hattie Mae Boyd.

He is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Jean McGowan-Owens (Late Lonnie Owen’s Jr.), Melody Ann McGowan (Allen), Shamekia Thompson (Louis), and two sons, Eugene McGowan Jr. (Stephanie) and Anthony McGowan (Sharanda). His Twenty-one grandchildren, Thirty-eight great-grandchildren.

Eugene was the last brother to five sisters: Betty Tribble (Bobby), Olivia Wes Williams (Wister), Dorothy Ann Davis (Scottie), Lessie Mae Speaks, and Juanita Johnson (Lloyd). Lastly, are his two special friends - Cadon Crawford who always provided him with his favorite game meats, and Jake Brown, his long time hunting partner and many other loving relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life was held July 7, 2024 at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Cross Hill, SC. His final resting place is in the Church Cemetery.
